Maria Dos Santos

1939 - 2023

Maria (Calado) Dos Santos, 83, of Wethersfield, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2023. She was the beloved wife of 62 years to Antonio Dos Santos. She was born in Bugalhos, Portugal on November 25, 1939 daughter of the late Gregorio and Palmira Calado. Maria immigrated to the U.S. in March of 1976 and started working as a seamstress before moving to the Cleaning and Maintenance Dept. at Aetna. Shortly after, she was promoted to Maintenance Supervisor and held that role until her retirement. Maria was an excellent cook and enjoyed shopping. She also enjoyed spending time outdoors at the beach, camping, fishing, and boating. Most importantly, Maria's life was centered around her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister.

Maria is survived by her husband and caregiver, Antonio, who took such delicate care of her all the way to her final moments; her sons Humberto Dos Santos and his wife Ana, Joaquim Dos Santos and his wife Luisa, Carlos Dos Santos and his wife Irena, and Luis Dos Santos; grandchildren Sergio Dos Santos and his wife Samantha, Cristina McIntyre and her husband Scott, Matthew Dos Santos and his girlfriend Nicole Bidwell, Ashley Dos Santos, Jonathan Dos Santos and his girlfriend Ashley Lassey, and Carlos J. Dos Santos and his girlfriend Stephanie Santos; and great-grandchildren Rylan and Austin McIntyre and Briella Dos Santos. She is also survived by her brother Acacio Louro Dos Santos; sister-in-law Manuela Rodrigues and her husband Joaquim; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins both in the U.S. and Portugal. Maria is predeceased by her sister Adelina Louro Dos Santos; and brothers Joao and Jose Antonio Louro Dos Santos.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Maria's family on Tuesday, February 28th from 8:30 to 10:15 a.m. at the Duksa Family Funeral Homes at Newington Memorial, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Hartford. She will be laid to rest in the Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford.
