Martha Zdyrko Obituary
Martha (Bartkewycz) Zdyrko, 90, formerly of North Windham, CT, beloved wife of the late John Zdyrko, died November 13, 2013 in Fox Hill Center in Rockville. She was born February 17, 1923 in Lysyatychi, Ukraine the daughter of Michael and Kateryna (Szpir) Bartkewycz. She retired in 1989 from the University of CT after 15 years of service. She was a member of St. Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church and a member of the Self-Reliance organization. Martha was blessed with a beautiful voice, praising God in the church choir and continued singing until very recently. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother to her children: Michael Zdyrko and his wife Angie, Irene Zdyrko, Lesia LeClerc and her husband Jerry and Ivanka Zdyrko; her grandchildren: Cindy Guessford, David Zdyrko, John Zdyrko, Monique LeClerc, David LeClerc, Shawn LeClerc and Damien LeClerc: and four great grandchildren. She also leaves a beloved nephew Michael Hramiak and his wife Maria and their extended family. Her family will receive friends Today (Friday) from 6-8 p.m. with a Panakhyda Service at 7 p.m. at the Bacon Funeral Home, 71 Prospect St. Willimantic. A Panakhyda Service will again be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a procession to St. Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church on Oak St. for the celebration of the Divine Liturgy at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Club Rd. Dear Zdyrko family,
I would like to add my condolences to you all. It has been many years since I've seen your mother but do remember so vividly what a beautiful voice she had. I remember her and your father as they were friends of my aunt and uncle, Steve and Anna Oborski, and my parents, Evgenija and Peter Oborski, of Glastonbury. May God bless your mother in heaven, and bless you all as you remember the beautiful Ukrainian traditions they treasured.
