Mary Bavier Obituary

Mary (O'Brien) Bavier of Coventry, died peacefully at her home on February 1, 2017 surrounded and comforted by her loving family and her dearest friend, Barbara Tartaglia. Mary was born in Hartford on February 24, 1921 and lived her entire adult life in East Hartford and Coventry. Mary was predeceased by her husband, William H. Bavier; her sons, Stephen D. Bavier and William J. Bavier; her sisters, Alicia Castelli, Rita O'Brien, Jane O'Donnell, Theresa Killian and her brother, John O'Brien. Mary was a loving and dedicated mother who always put her family first. She was an avid reader and a politically astute advocate for justice for all. Mary was a champion of civil and LGBT rights and of all those who are discriminated against. She was a wonderful cook and loved sharing meals with her family and friends. Her house and her table were often filled to overflowing. Mary's greatest joy was sharing her life with those she loved. She leaves behind her children and their spouses: Alice and John Creagh, Terry and John Thayer, Tom and Terry Bavier and Paul and Mary Bavier as well as her daughters-in-law, Carole Bavier and Maureen Bavier and her many nieces and nephews with whom she was very close. Mary's 14 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren were most important to her and a source of great pride. At the age of 95 she still knew each and every one of their birthdays and followed their activities with great interest, even when she could no longer attend their games, concerts, and other events. Her faith was a source of great comfort and inspiration to her. She was a very spiritual person. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family from 5 to 7 PM on Thursday, February 9, 2017 at the Coventry-Pietras Funeral Home, 2665 Boston Tpke. Coventry, CT 06238.
