Mary CURTIN Obituary

CURTIN, Mary L.

Mary L. (Safford) Curtin, 61, of Westerly, R.I., passed away peacefully December 20, 2011, in her home surrounded by her loving family. Mary was born on July 16, 1950, in Hartford, Conn. She was the daughter of Madeline (Lake) and John D. Safford of Bloomfield, Conn. She was a graduate of Bloomfield High School. For many years, Mary lived in East Charleston, Vt., before moving to Westerly over 20 years ago. She made friends everywhere she went and brightened all our lives with her kindness, compassion and constant understanding. She leaves behind countless close friends in Vermont and Bloomfield, as well as here in the Westerly area. She especially loved sailing in the Virgin Islands with her husband, Geoff. And in the past couple years, nothing brought her more joy than spending time with her new grandson, Leo. Mary was the beloved wife of Geoffrey Curtin, of Westerly, a devoted mother to her daughter, Hannah Curtin, and a loving grandmother to her 3-year old grandson, Leonardo Paradise. She is survived by her brothers, Duncan Safford, of Derbyline, Vt., and Stewart Safford, of Fort Myers, Fla., as well as her stepdaughter, Melanie Curtin, of Washington, D.C.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 27, at Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St., Westerly, RI 02891 (401-596-2467) with reception to follow. Burial will take place Wednesday, Dec. 28, at 11 a.m. at Cedar Hill Cemetery, 453 Fairfield Ave., Hartford, CT 06114. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bradford Jonnycake Center, Inc., P.O. Box 273, Westerly, RI 02891.
