Mary Formica Obituary

Mary Formica of Vernon, CT passed away peacefully at home on Thursday July 18, 2019. Mary was born on October 8, 1932 in Hartford, CT to the late Mary Geerts and Harry Geerts Sr. Mary graduated high school in Hartford and served in the U.S. Air Force after which she went on to work at Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Company. Later Mary enjoyed a long career at Hartford Hospital starting as a mail clerk and retiring in 1991 as Director of Data Processing. Mary was very appreciative of the recognition of her hard work and the opportunities afforded her by her boss Dick Edlund. Time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren, and friends was very special to Mary. One of her greatest pleasures was the smile on her grandchildren's face after opening presents at birthdays or Christmas or finding the Easter eggs she hid in the yard. Because of her, her family has special memories to last a lifetime. Mary enjoyed many special times with friend Pat Gore from childhood through adulthood and friend Mavis Small who shared the love of Ft. Myers Beach with her. Mary started with a time share there and eventually bought her own condo overlooking the ocean where she cherished watching the dolphins, walking the beach and the breath taking sunsets. In earlier years Mary enjoyed duckpin bowling and watching UCONN Women's Basketball. She was known for her spaghetti sauce, bread pudding, chicken cutlets and hearty laugh. Mary is survived by her daughter Cindy Roman and her husband Scott of Holland MA and their children Dan and Dylan of Tolland CT as well as her son Chuck Formica and his wife Linda of Tolland CT and their daughters Gabriella of West Hartford CT and Nicole of Tolland, CT. The family wishes to send a special thank you to the caregivers who helped Mary through the last stage of life and special thanks to the ECHN Visiting Nurse Hospice team for everything they did for her. Family and friends may call at Rose Hill Funeral Home, 580 Elm Street, Rocky Hill, CT 06067 on Thursday July 25, 2019 from 5 to 7pm. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers please consider helping a stranger or visiting a friend or family member to help Make A Memory or by making a donation to the Alzheimer's Association, 200 Executive Blvd., Suite 4B, Southington, CT 06489.
