Michael Camilleri Obituary

Michael Joseph Camilleri 49 of Cromwell, peacefully passedaway on Thursday January 13, 2022, from Neuroendocrine Cancer. He was the son of Joseph and Patricia Camilleri of Rocky Hill. The brother of Steven Camilleri of Wethersfield and Janet Camilleri of Rocky Hill. He was born on December 28, 1972, and grew up in Rocky Hill. He was proud to be on the Wrestling team and was an all-state finalist. He always had a love of politics and reading from a young age. Michael attended Trinity College in Hartford and studied Sociology. During this time, he met his future wife, Terri. They were married on March 12, 1994. After Trinity he fulfilled his lifelong dream of becoming a lawyer. He enjoyed the class work and made lifelong friends. Michael graduated with Honors from UCONN Law School and didn't even know until he saw the words Honors on the diploma. Michael and Terri lived in Cromwell and began their family. On March 26, 1999, Michaels's dream of being a father came true. They had a daughter Elizabeth Ann, who did not survive birth. In 2001 they welcomed their daughter Megan Elizabeth. In 2004 they welcomed their daughter Jessica Lynn, and their family was complete. Michael took pride in his family and was always there to protect them. He always encouraged his daughters to be their best. Because of him, they will. Family was everything to Michael. He was a proud uncle, and his nieces and nephews meant the world to him. Katelynn and Brenna McKinnon were his first. He then became uncle to Joey, Ava, Jake, Cooper and Matthew Camilleri and Chloe, Cailey and Liam Harris. He loved his aunts and uncles and all his cousins in Italy. His father-in-law Peter, sister and brother-in-law Kim and Rob, and sister-in-law Amy were family. He was a proud Sicilian and enjoyed the chance to visit his Italian relatives in 2018. Michael had a great sense of community and always wanted to make a difference. Over the years, he served on many Boards of Directors for a variety of agencies. He served on the Board of Education in Cromwell for 12 years always trying to give the children of Cromwell the best educational experience. He was a member of St. Josephine Bakhita parish and was the Chair of the Church Council for many years. Michael was a true leader. He was able to calmly work through issues to create a solution where everyone was happy. He had the great skill of networking and knew people from all over the world. Everyone who met Michael loved him. He was kind and generous to everyone. Michael's career in Law started at Brown Rudnick as a Commercial Real Estate Attorney. He moved to Pratt and Whitney and was their Global Ethics and Compliance officer. This was the job he was meant to do. He made a family with all his friends and coworkers. They became an important part of his life. He touched many lives and made everyone feel comfortable and loved. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial by private invitation only due to Covid. Our family encourages everyone to participate through the Zoom link from St. Josephine Bakhita Parish. https://www.facebook.com/saintjosephinebakhita/ https://www.saintjosephinebakhita.org/Friends may pay their respects through the Brooklawn Funeral Home, 511 Brook St. Rocky Hill, on Tuesday January 18th from 5-7 pm. In lieu of flowers a memorial scholarship in Michael's name will be set up with the Cromwell School System. For online guestbook please visit www.brooklawnfuneralhome.com.

Dear Camilleri Family - I just learned of Mike's passing and am really heartbroken. Mike was a wonderful and trusted volunteer atty with the Pro Bono Partnership (which I direct here in CT) - always willing to help out, generous and upbeat with his assistance. And just a great all-around guy. I was always glad when he was working on a project because I knew the client would enjoy working with Mike and would get a great result.

I am sending all of you wishes for peace and strength. As they say in the Jewish tradition: May his memory be a blessing.

Mike was a special person. I worked with Mike at Brown Rudnick, and he was thoughtful and intelligent, of course, but his ethics and priorities also showed through everything he did.

I especially remember that after he left us for Pratt, my son had just started a job at Pratt, and Mike took him out to lunch to help him get his feet on the ground. It was a very nice gesture but was typical of Mike.

He will be missed, but not forgotten.

I only had been on group calls with Mike at work. Without really speaking directly, I noticed how professional he was and how he was really paying attention to details, with a lot of modesty and very simply.

Then, one day I shared with the whole legal team a bad personal experience I had so others could may be avoid a similar situation. This is when Mike reached out directly to me without really knowing me and demonstrated to me his personality. His message was truly transpiring kindness, caring and gentleness. Without knowing me he was able to show in his email how generous he could be in paying attention to people and encouraging them in taking care of themselves. I think it was truly a demonstration of his interest in people and how much goodness he has in his heart.

All my thoughts with him, his family and friends.

My heart is broken, like so many others, to learn about Mike's passing. He was my "next door neighbor" at Pratt and part of the Wolf Pack, a team of lawyers who believed that as a team we could tackle any issue that came our way. Mike was a team player in every sense. Lifting us up when we needed encouragement, sharing a joke when we needed levity, and exhibiting wisdom when we grappled with a problem. He was the best of the best and will be missed every day. My heart sends love to the Camilleri family, especially Terri and the girls. He loved them more than anything on this planet. Rest easy my friend.

I'm very sorry to hear of Mike's passing, especially as he and I were so close in age and shared many common interests growing up, including delivering the Courant, involvement in the St. Elizabeth Seton church, being members of band in junior high and high school, etc. It's clear from the recent outpouring of support that Mike's dedication to his legal career, his community involvement in the Cromwell Board of Education, and his devotion to his family have made a difference in so many lives. I am thankful to have known him. May he rest in peace.

So sorry to hear of Mike’s passing – Terri, Meg & Jess – my prayers are with you and your extended family. I was very fortunate to have been able to work closely with him at P&W and recall when he would receive a text from either Meg or Jess sharing something from your day. He always would smile when he heard from either of you. It was obvious you had a very special relationship. He would also take time to share videos of concerts when either of you performed from the night before. He was definitely a very proud father. Cherish your memories of him.

To the Camilleri family,
I was Michael´s guidance counselor at Rocky Hill High School over 30 years ago. All of his qualities mentioned in the obituary and in these condolences were evident even back then. He was a leader who never had to "promote" himself. Truly, I knew, even back then, that he was special. I was so sorry to hear of his passing.
It always makes me continue to wonder why bad things happen to such good people...and he was.
Please accept my sincere sympathy on your very great loss.

He was such a fighter and his impact will shine through his beloved daughters, Terri and the Cromwell community. Rest in Paradise Mike.

Marie Benedetto

January 18, 2022

The Benedetto family is truly heart-broken to hear the news of Mike's passing. Our hearts, prayers and warmest condolences go out to Terri and the girls, Mike's parents and family members and his never-ending stream of close friends, peers and those whose lives he touched, even just for a moment. A true faithful, humorous humanitarian!

I was fortunate enough to get to know Michael and Terri through our time together at St. Elizabeth Seton in folk group, other church boards and committees. Our families became fast friends (how could you not?) and we enjoyed many fun, happy times together. Enjoying parallel paths of starting a marriage and family while being part of a beautiful family of faith at St. Elizabeth Seton.

Always willing to lend a ear, hand or prayer, Mike and Terri graciously offered their time and talent of music and prayer on the eve of our wedding at St. Elizabeth Seton. They assisted in a very meaningful prayer service in honor of my deceased mother the night before my wedding. It helped me tremendously to carve out that time in my mom's honor, to be missed and remembered, but also then allowing us to enjoy the joyous occasion of our wedding day. To Mike and Terri, it probably seemed like a simple, easy task for them to participate, not being fully aware of their tremendous impact they had on that day in my heart and my soul. That's how we see Mike and all of his works in life. A kind spirit, willing to help and make an impact in the lives of those around him. While his life on earth has been cut short, his works in this life have not only been MANY, but will continue to have positive impacts on those left behind for years to come.

To Terri and his girls; my heart and soul is with you every step of the way during this time of grief, loss and healing. Mike's faith journey on earth will continue to provide love, comfort and peace in his spiritual world. He will continue to father and guide his girls here while joining his sweet Elizabeth in heaven. All of our love, prayers and heartfelt condolences to all of those who were fortunate enough to touched by Mike's presence in their lives, most especially his family, Terri, Megan and Jessica, his parents and siblings, and extended family.

In prayer and faith - Marie, Paul, Mattina and Nicholas Benedetto

Michael was a genuinely great man. My family won't forget him. He supported the boys when they needed him, but more than that, he really saw them. Dear Terri, Meg & Jess, Joe, Pat, Steve & Janet,

I'm so sorry to hear about Mike's passing. My prayers are with you as well as those of our parish community last weekend in the Mass intentions. Mike was such a bright, friendly guy with a great sense of humor. He was devoted to each of you sharing his love and was a faithful follower of the Lord and dedicated member of SES. I could always lean on his counsel and sage ways as we grew community together worshiping with spirit, serving with a sense of justice, and enjoying all the activities of parish life.

May he rest in the peace of the Lord he served so well as he prays for you now in the kingdom of Christ.

I will always treasure the friendship Mike and I struck up in law school, and memories of the times when our paths crossed in the years since. Not until I met the love of my life did I fully appreciate why Mike so often turned down the chance to grab a beer after the last night class of the week so he could hurry home to the love of his. Mike´s devotion to family, loyalty to friends, service to his community and profession, and faith in God are a model to everyone whose life he touched.

I was heartbroken to learn of Mike's passing and will miss his warmth, kindness and friendship immensely. Mike and I first met in a book club of lawyers and then began working together at Pratt & Whitney. When he became the lead ethics officer for the company, he would always joke with me that, as the former lead ethics officer, I was the Pope Benedict to his Pope Francis - not in the big job any more, but around and happy to chat. He was a great colleague, but a far better friend. I'll miss you immensely, Mike.

I will never forget working with Mike - "Camel" as we called him. He always brought humor and levity to a conversation when needed. His candor, demeanor and leadership style won over everyone who worked with him. We worked on so many successful projects together that weaved fun and humor into serious topics, to help engage employees and try new ways of doing things. I miss him so much already and can still hear his voice when he would join a Zoom call... "Helllllooooo Laura!" I wish peace for all of his friends and family.

To the Camilleri Family,
Michael's passing was a great loss to you and our entire community. While his life was far too brief, he accomplished so much in his time. He was a perceptive and engaging student at Rocky Hill High School, where I came to know him in my English class; life then took him to our alma mater Trinity, giving us more related experiences to share. You have been so wonderful in updating news on him, Steve, and Janet in your Christmas letters over the years; through them I have seem him grow, raise a family, and build a successful law-related career. His leadership at work and with the church influenced so many people. All deaths are sad, but his is especially painful. His wife and children will look back at Michael, this kind and sensitive man, finding in him a model for their continuing personal and spiritual growth.

Sincerely,
Paul LaRocca

I've met Mike in person only a number of times when I visited Pratt. Everytime he made me feel so welcomed. The way he smiled, the way he carried himself set everyone in the room at ease.

We spoke on the phone many times. During our last Zoom call last year we checked in each other, he showed me his home office and his cute little kitty.

Mike was always there to support what I do at work and willing to jump on a call for a quick discussion even mostly it's his evening time due to the time difference.

My condolences to Mike's entire family. May he rest in peace. Sending all the love and prayers from Shanghai, China. He will be deeply missed.

The loss of Michael will be profoundly felt by entire communities. His kindness had no boundaries and he was a true inspiration for all lucky enough to have known him.
Michael, your world got exponentially bigger in the last 30 years, touching so many lives for the better but I will always remember you as the brilliant 18yo young man with the infectious smile, wonderful sense of humor and always positive attitude. We made so many fun memories in our very young and carefree years; chicken fights on the day of our high school graduation, Bruno’s world politics class w Dave, doing literally anything to try and get through calculus, getting lost in Hartford trying to deliver left over holiday food to the homeless shelter and driving around aimlessly blasting our favorite Firehouse tunes over and over and over again. To this day I think of you when I hear any of those songs. I will be forever grateful to have been able to call you my friend.
Rest easy Michael knowing that you were one of a kind and your impact on your girls, your family and our entire community will never be forgotten

I was also blessed to serve with him in a number of ministries at the church we both loved. As you know the best, Mike was an exceptional person. He combined his values, Knowledge, wisdom, faith, leadership, and a sense of humor seamlessly and effortlessly. I was honored to consider him a legal colleague and, more importantly, a friend.
