Michael was my first cousin. I have lived all my life in Michigan and he in Connecticut, so life conspired to drastically limit the times we could be together, or me with all my other Norman cousins. Yet, he was one of my favorite relatives, a funny, caring and smart guy, who I will miss greatly. My love to Bonnie, Sam, Larry, Paul and all my other relations whom I don't get to see often enough.

Mr. Norman was my 6th grade teacher over 50 years ago, and I have very fond memories of what a great teacher he was. Our class rehearsed all year for the HMS PInafore and it was quite a production. Rest in peace.

I got to know Michael better after we'd both retired from teaching in Manchester. We were active with ARTC, and I learned a lot from him. He was a person of high integrity, with a true love of children and teaching. He left us far too soon.

Mr. Norman was a beloved teacher at Keeney St. School. As a parent, I was always impressed by his dedication to his students, and I always repeat his words, "Above all else, be kind!" My condolences to his family at this very sad time. I will keep you in my prayers.

You'll hear from students, my daughter among them, I am sure, but how often will you hear from their parents? In his last year of teaching at Keeney Elementary School, my daughter, Lisa, had Mr. Norman for her fourth grade class. Lisa was an inordinately shy little girl! She had had some hearing issues, and while they were corrected in Kindergarten, I think the communication problems she had experienced early on affected her confidence. I worried about Lisa constantly, but Mr. Norman saw the woman Lisa would become in the eyes of my child. He would tell me, "Lisa is so smart!! Relax! You don't have to worry about that one. She will make you so proud!" I can't tell you what that meant to me. It hadn't seemed like anyone had recognized her potential to that point, but he did. And he was absolutely right. I was so proud when Lisa won the award for best student teaching at ECSU, and I am prouder still that she is now a confident and caring elementary school teacher, just as he was to her. He saw in her what others would not recognize, and he quietly but steadfastly urged her forward. He calmed a mother's fears with that same quiet determination. I'm so grateful and will remember him always. May his memory be a blessing to you.

Michael was a great guy and teacher. He always worked very hard for his students and fellow teachers. He was very encouraging to me personally in my years as an educator. I am very sorry for your loss.

I am so so very sorry for your loss. Mr. Norman was a great man! He was my 4th grade teacher the same year he retired. 4th grade with Mr. Norman was a year to remember! I remember the school pay he wrote (I played Rosemary Clooney), "traveling" around the 50 states (he is the reason I know how to write a check-- The Bank of Norman), my sister and I eating latkes with him while the rest of the students did Christmas activities, the candy jar on his desk, and so much more! I actually still have a child's pair of scissors that he gave me while he was cleaning out his classroom for retirement. I was very quiet and shy as a child, but Mr. Norman always believed in me and my future successes. My mom reminds me of this every now and again. He told her that although I was very quiet and shy, he could tell I would do well in the future. I am now starting my 8th year as a 1st grade teacher. I can thank Mr. Norman for being one of the most influential teachers in my life. He was a great man and a great teacher, I can only strive to impact my students' lives like he impacted mine. Again, I am so sorry for your loss. I hope you find happiness in knowing how influential he was.
