MELLBERG, Michele A. Michele Ann (Morneau) Mellberg, 45, of Somers, was called to eternal life on Friday, (November 19, 2004). She was employed by Figaro's Restaurant in Enfield for 12 years and previously worked as a professional chef at Mr. Magoo's Restaurant in Springfield, MA. She was born in Springfield, MA on September 27, 1959, one of seven sisters of Gerard Lucien and Helen Yvette (St. Marie) Morneau. Michele was a resident of Somers and formerly of Springfield, MA. She graduated from Classical High School in Springfield in 1977 and received her Associates degree in Culinary Arts in 1979 from Johnson & Wales University in Providence, RI. She was a member of the YMCA in Springfield, MA and the Shenipsit Striders of Somers. She enjoyed many indoor and outdoor activities including running, hiking, canoeing, camping, and strength training, and ran competitively. She also loved animals and especially her late German Shepard, Boris. Michele had an unparalleled zest for life. She was best known for her strong work ethic, love of music, gregarious, cheerful, humorous, loving, outgoing, and energetic demeanor, and her perseverance in life. She grew up as a tomboy, yet experienced a metamorphosis into a fine young woman. She leaves her beloved husband and best friend of 21 years, Robert Mellberg. They were married on September 9, 1983 at Trinity Methodist Church in Springfield. Michele leaves her mother and father, Gerard Lucien and Helen Yvette (St. Marie) Morneau of Springfield; her dear sisters, Colette Iampietro, and her husband Steven of Wilbraham, MA; Yvonne Cormier (twin of Yvette) and her husband Richard of Ludlow, MA; Diane Duquette (twin of Denise) and her husband Thomas F. (Jr.) of Pine Mountain Club, CA; Lillian Buettner and her husband Richard of Somers; Yvette DelVecchio of Holyoke, MA and her husband Gary; Denise Korfhage of Louisville, KY and her late husband Thomas; and Jeannette Morneau of Springfield, MA. She leaves her mother-in-law, Shirley (Mellberg) Decaro and her husband Frank of Naples, FL; father-in-law Ernest Mellberg of Holyoke, MA; brother-in-law Michael Scibelli and wife Maria of East Longmeadow, MA and Carol Mellberg of Springfield, MA. She also leaves many nieces and nephews including Gina (DelVecchio) Jenks of South Hadley, MA; Monique (DelVecchio) Manzi of Milton Ontario; Nikki and Richard Zaldivar, Jr., of Ludlow and Palmer, MA; respectively, Nicole and Michael Scibelli Jr., of East Longmeadow, MA; twins, Paige and Chloe Iampietro of Wilbraham, MA; Michael and Lauren Buettner of Somers; Brian, Thomas Jr., Michele, Robert, and Marie Korfhage of Louisville, KY. She also leaves several beloved aunts and uncles, and has joined her grandparents. She also joins Uncle Nelson for a 2K-road walk in heaven, many grand nieces and nephews and cousins and her friends and co-workers at Figaro's. Her memorial service and celebration of life will be held at Forestiere's Funeral Home, 220 North Main Street, East Longmeadow, MA on Tuesday, November 23, from 2-6 p.m., with a service to follow at 6 p.m. For those that choose to make a memorial donation, they may be made to the Easter Seals Foundation, Greater Hartford Rehabilitation Center, 100 Deerfield Road, Windsor, CT 06095.
