Nancy Brink Obituary

Our family is sad to inform you of the passing of Nancy Newton Calhoun Brink, 52, of West Hartford. She was the best mother, daughter, sister, wife or friend anyone could have asked for. In Nancy's special way, she touched so many people's lives with her kind and generous heart, and extremely loving spirit. She would always be the first to help a friend, never hesitating to lend a hand and offer a smile. Her presence on earth will be dearly missed. Nancy was born Friday, February 1, 1963 in Suffield, CT to Jose Machado Calhoun and Sallie Calhoun VanItallie. Nancy lived in Suffield for a short time, later moving to West Hartford to spend the rest of her life. She attended the Renbrook and Kingswood Oxford Schools, playing softball, but her true passions were soccer and skiing, which she pursued actively throughout her life. Nancy graduated from UCONN with a bachelor's degree in Communications in 1985. On August 25, 1990, Nancy married the love of her life, Phillip Ames Brink. Over the following 25 years they raised three wonderful daughters (Avery, Paige, & Mackenzie) and built a tremendous life together. Her family was always at the heart of everything that Nancy did, which she artfully balanced with her career. Nancy's career began briefly at WFSB, Channel 3 in Hartford, and then following in her father's footsteps, she went into banking, beginning as a Customer Service Representative with Connecticut National Bank in West Hartford Center. Nancy worked for a variety of other institutions, ultimately finishing her banking career as a branch manager for Webster Bank. For the past 15 years Nancy was indispensable as the office administrator with Coldwell Banker in West Hartford Center. While there, she developed a host of friends and relationships that went well beyond the office. Nancy always expressed how grateful and lucky she was to work with such a talented group of individuals. The care and concern from her friends and co-workers in her final days has been truly overwhelming and heartwarming. Nancy leaves behind her husband, Phillip and three daughters - Avery, Paige & Mackenzie Brink, Sister - Cecilia Calhoun and her husband Robert Firger, Brother - Jose Machado Calhoun, Jr., sister-in-law Julie Brink Neistat, husband Mark, brother-in-law Todd Brink, her greatly loved nieces and nephew, as well as Darby, her beloved dog. A Memorial Service in honor of Nancy's beautiful life will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the First Church of Christ Congregational, 12 South Main Street, West Hartford, CT 06107. In lieu of flowers, a contribution may be made to the scholarship fund in Nancy's name at Camp Hazen YMCA in Chester, CT. where Nancy, and then her three children all spent wonderful summers making fond memories and great friendships. I have known Nancy since our days at K-O. In recent years both my daughters, Tye and Chloe have been good friends with Paige and Mackenzie and I recall recently seeing you at Conard.. You always had a warm smile and a kind heart.. The Brink Family is in my prayers. Peace be with you.

BTW.. I also Graduated from Uconn in '85 with a Bachelors Degree in Communications. I also followed my father into banking and started as a Cust. Service Rep at CNB in West Hartford. I too am born in February... the 4th 1962....

We have known Nancy and her beautiful family for over 10 years. We bought Nancy's old house so she could raise her girls in a larger house. This house has always been known as "Nancy's house."We will think of you always. The angels are waiting for you with open arms. Condolences & God bless to your entire family and the community which she loved. There is an empty hole in so many hearts.

I last saw Nancy at our 20-year high school reunion in 2001. She had three daughters and I had three sons, and we talked about what a great family dynamic it is to have "three of a kind." She truly enjoyed raising three girls. We talked about the tremendous evolution West Hartford Center has undergone through the years. It was to be our last conversation, but I'm glad it was a nice one. Keeping her family in my thoughts.

My deepest sympathies on your loss. I have known Nancy since our KO days and our paths have always seemed to cross. be it her helping me out with a banking issue back in her Webster days, watching a soccer game at FSA, or just catching up on lasalle road outside her office. Such a great person and one that was a friend, in the best meaning of the word. RIP Nancy. I for one among many will miss you.

You have my deepest sympathy on your immeasurable loss. Life is so short and those we love are gone from our lives too quickly. God's promise to empty the grave in the near future is found at Hosea 13:14. May the God of loyal love comfort you during your time of sorrow.
