Nancy Lehr

LEHR, Nancy (Lambright) Nancy (Lambright) Lehr, 79, of Old Lyme, died Thursday (July 30, 2009) at her home. Nancy was the beloved wife of 58 years of John F. Lehr, who died April 27, 2009. She was born on February 28, 1930 in Louisville, KY and was the daughter of the late Harold R. and Thelma (Foster) Lambright. She graduated from Hamden High School in 1948 and Stephens College, Columbia, MO in 1950. Nancy was a member of the New Haven Junior Women's Club, the Junior West End Club, the Westport Young Women's League and Child and Family Services in Old Lyme. She was a Red Cross Volunteer at Norwalk Hospital. She was a longtime board member of the Connecticut Women's Golf Association and served as president from 1981-82. She was an original member of the U.S. Golf Association Handicap and Procedure Committee; the rules of golf being a favorite subject of hers. She also served as treasurer of the New England Golf Association and for 36 years was on the board of the Old Lyme Country Club Women's Golf Association, serving terms as chairman and co-chairman. In addition to her love of golf, she was an avid reader, a duplicate bridge player, and enjoyed learning how to use her computer. Some of her happiest moments were spent on St. Croix, where she and her husband spent the winter for many years. She is survived by her two sons, John F. Lehr Jr., and his wife, Kellie, of Fayetteville, AK and Richard D. Lehr and his wife, Karin, of Belmont, MA; and her six grandchildren, Julia and Nathaniel Lehr of Fayetteville, and Nicholas, Christian, Holly and Dana of Belmont. She is also survived by her brother, Harold R. Lambright Jr., and two nieces and a nephew. Nancy was able to spend her final weeks at home under the care of doctors, nurses and social workers from the hospice unit at Middlesex Hospital. A private family service is planned.
