Norman Cote Obituary

Norman D. Cote, (67), of Farmington passed away peacefully in the arms of his wife and daughters on Sunday, March 18, 2018. Norman was born in Hartford to Mona A. (Soucy) and Donald J. Cote. He attended Saint Joseph's Cathedral, Northwest Catholic High School, Northwestern Community College, and Central CT State College, graduating in 1974 with degrees in History and English. Norm found a job at Hartford Hospital, working as a male aide, utilization reviewer, and EEG technician. He then dedicated thirty years to the Institute of Living as a senior psychiatric technician until his retirement in 2013. Norman found joy in getting to know the clients on and individual level and engaging patients in poetry and spirituality groups. Norm's biggest pride and joy was his family. He is predeceased by his parents and is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Denise (Ouellette) Cote of Farmington, daughters Claire of Unionville, Adrienne & fiance Mike Parker of Colchester, and sisters and brothers-in-laws Colleen & Peter Kornichuk, Rena & Michael Natale, Donna Cote, Brenda Webster, Lynda & David Telman, and many nieces and nephews who he loved very much. Norm treasured his long-lasting friendships from his youth and early days at the hospital. He will forever be remembered for his game-filled parties, appreciation of art and the written word, and for being that friend who was there through all the seasons. Friends may call at The Ahern Funeral Home, 111 Main St., Rt. 4, Unionville on Thursday (Mar 29) from 4-8PM. Memorial donations may be sent to the CT Humane Society 701 Russell Rd. Newington, CT 06111 or at www.cthumane.com.

It has been a difficult week trying to come to terms with the loss of such a dear friend. The depth of the sadness has been something I have not experianced in my life. Norm was such a reliable and fun person. Someone who taught me so much about life and how to be. He was more like a brother to me than any of my own brothers have been. To say that I will miss him is a huge understatement. We had a special bond.
I will never forget the great times we had throughout the years. Going back to Colebrook, CT and the "Thompson one" days at the Institute of living. The concerts in the parks (and music venues) and the parties in Farmington with the Cote/Oulette family. The happy hours at the Chowder Pot. Lots of seafood and beer were consumed and a lot of the worlds issues resolved in those sessions! The movies and rendevous' at Hot Basil with our wives. All the fun/laughs we had!
Most of all though I will remember Norm's love of life. His great optimism and encouraging words of wisdom.
I will keep those thoughts and spirit with me for as long as I am in this world and try to pay that spirit forward to others, as Norm would have done.
My heartfelt and sincere condolences to Denise, Claire, Adrienne and the entire Cote family.
Let us always keep Norm in our hearts...

Lots of Love,

Dave and Anne
