Norman DAVEY Obituary

DAVEY, Norman W. Norman W. Davey, 90, formerly of Winsted Ct., and Emmaus and Bethlehem, Pa., died April 2, 2010, in Lawrenceville, Ga. He was the husband of Mary Kay (Coffey) Davey. The couple celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in October 2009. Born in Hartford, Ct., he was the son of Walter V. and Leila (Williams) Davey. A graduate of The Gilbert School in nearby Winsted, he attended Emerson College in Boston prior to enlisting in the Army Air Corps during WWII. After the war he returned to Winsted, working in the family business, The Dano Electric Company. In 1956, he began a 25-year career in sales of radio communications systems for Motorola. He retired in 1981. Early in his marriage, he was very active in the Winsted community, serving as president of the PTA, and director of both the YMCA and the Gaylord-Tiffany Playground. For many years he directed and acted in local theater productions of The Footlight Club in Winsted, and Civic Little Theatre in Allentown, Pa. On and off stage, he was best known for his unique, dry wit that especially came to light in the many poems and verses he wrote and performed, usually on special family occasions. He was also an avid reader, chess player, and crossword puzzle connoisseur. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his twin sister Gladys of Winsted, Ct.; children, Robert of New Freedom, Pa., Jeffrey and his wife Debbie of Snellville, Ga., and Kathryn and her friend Milton Wolfson of Hollywood, Fl.; 8 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Vernon, a sister Betty, and a daughter-in-law Diane, wife of Robert. In Lieu of Flowers, contributions can be made to Embracing Hospice, 2160 Fountain Drive, Snellville, GA. 30078; or The American Diabetes Association. Condolences may be sent or viewed at www.wagesfuneralhome.com. Tom M. Wages Funeral Service, LLC, Snellville Chapel.

June 22, 2010

My deepest sympathy and love to Mary Kay, Rob, Duffy and Kathy. I was so sad to find this news this evening on the internet. Some of the happiest times of my childhood were spent with all of you. No one made me laugh the way Norm did. He was a wonderful man, and I'm so grateful that I have such lovely memories of him. I will let Rosemary and Angie know of his passing.
Love,
Caroline
