Norman Mahler

1935 - 2016

Norman Mahler, 80, of Boulder Ridge, Canton, beloved husband of Elizabeth (Kirschner) Mahler, died Friday, June 24, 2016 at his home. He was born December 4, 1935 in Waterbury, son of the late Phillip and Rose (Halzer) Mahler and had lived in Wolcott for many years prior to moving Canton four years ago. Norman received his Master's of Science from Central Connecticut State College and a post graduate Certification in the Teaching of Engineering Technology from the University of Illinois. Mr. Mahler was a Professor of Electrical Engineering at Waterbury State Technical College for 32 years prior to his retirement in 1996. He was a recipient of a Teacher of the Year award and had co-authored the textbook, "Basic Mathematics for Electricians". He was a member of the Institute of Electrical Engineers and the American Society for Engineering Education. Norman was an avid jogger having run many mini marathons prior to health difficulties getting in the way. He was an avid learner, studying microcomputers and advanced physics up to the time of his passing. Besides his loving wife of 42 years, he is survived by his two sons, Paul Mahler and his wife Michele McDermott of New Hartford and Todd Mahler and his husband Daniel Ovitt of San Francisco, CA; his brother, Ken Mahler and his wife Barbara of Lenox, MA; his granddaughter, Morgan Elizabeth McDermott of New Hartford and his niece and nephews, Keith Mahler and his wife Jane of Waterbury, Phillip Mahler and his wife Daniele of Watertown, Lisa Ajzenman and her husband Arthur of Hollis Hills, NY. Friends may call at the Vincent Funeral Home, 120 Albany Turnpike in Canton on Tuesday, June 28th from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Service and burial will be private.
