I just heard the very sad news of the passing of Dr. Hine. He was a great pediatrician and both of my children went to him for years. He truly always gave the best advice to a parent and I loved his no nonsense, honest and down to earth approach. As a new parent over 18 years ago, he always answered all questions with humor and ease. When I first ever met him, I knew right away that he would be a great pediatrican for my children and for 18 years, he never disappointed. He was a great asset to our community and I am so sorry for your loss.

Dr. Hine was a cherished part of my motherhood experience. He guided me and my family for over 18 years; through difficult times, as well as joyful, healthy times, with charm, humor and modesty. I will always be grateful and think of him as my surrogate father, advisor and friend. Our whole family was so blessed to have his support in our child rearing days. Thank you for sharing him with us. Laurette, Edward, Jessica and Jeanette Saller

Peter was pediatrician for our 3 grown daughters now age 30, 33, and 35. We are hard pressed to express our gratitude for his expertise and caring during those formative years. He actually made a house call to our East Hampton home in 1978 after receiving a frantic call from (me) a distraught mom.
Please accept our sincere condolences.

When I heard the news of Pete's passing, I was shocked and deeply saddened. My memories are of a very funny and warm guy who took time to get to know and respect his young patients. His legacy will surely live on in all the children he served over the years. He was indeed my hero and cousin par excellence. My heart goes out his children and spouses.

My deepest sympathies to your family in this great loss - my memories of Peter go much farther back than most of those listed here - when he was the super-hero big brother of my best friend, and could solve any problem that ever beset her. The Hines welcomed me into their home and lives, and I wish you well in this time of deep sorrow.

Dr. Hine was our family pediatrician for many years in Marlborough. All five Buckley girls grew up under his care. Even years after I moved away, I brought my newborn daughter in for an "emergency" appointment while visiting my parents. What I thought was an emergency was just a new mother's overreaction. Dr. Hine could not have been more good-natured or kind. I remember him fondly and will keep you all in my prayers.

We are so sorry to hear of Dr. Hine's passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this difficult time. Dr. Hine was my son Jake's pediatrician from birth. Our favorite story was when Dr. Hine was blowing air in Jake's ears and Jake was laughing. Jake was around 3 years old then. Dr. Hine said "most kids hate that. He is a weird dude". Well Dr Hine was right!!!!! He was a wonderful, caring man. Please let your memories bring you peace.

Dearest Candi and Family,
Please accept my sincere and heartfelt sympathy for Peter's death. It has been years since I've had the pleasure of running into Peter at Hartford Hospital, but my memories of both of you remain vivid. You may remember me as Dr. Leon Chameides secretary at Hartford Hospital and a person who wouldn't miss the opportunity to socialize with the interns and residents in the Department of Pediatrics. Peter was always one of the nicest guys -- no matter how tired he was -- and he will be missed.

How will I ever forget Peter walking in our home a year after his diagnosis, in the middle of chemotherapy, wearing a perfectly tailored tux for a wedding in Mystic. Only Peter, with the grace and dignity he wore throughout this incredible, untimely challenge, could have stood so tall. He became an instant model for me. I am proud to have called him 'friend'.
