For Peter
Peter, our friend of many years,
Parting is not possible without some tears.
If the measure of a life is love received,
You were as golden as your friends believed.
It was modesty that made you so deserving,
While the Spirit of Life you tried to be serving.
Your life ended too soon for us to easily bear,
But for years to many, it had a value rare.
We know, it was far from perfect, to be sure.
Yet what in Life is all that pure?
There is no question you will be missed.
On sadness, your leaving will insist.
But while we left behind face our grief,
We will hold fast to the Great Belief
That Life on earth is not Life's end,
And on Love's Eternal Nature we shall depend.
