TABOL, Peter J. Peter J. Tabol, 90, of Bushy Hill Road, Simsbury, died Thursday, (July 27, 2006) at John Dempsey Hospital, Farmington. He was predeceased by Jennie (Skurski) Tabol, his good wife of 57 years. He was born September 24, 1915, in Uniontown, PA, son of the late Ludwig and Apolonia (Ziobra) Tabol and had lived in Middletown and Hartford prior to moving to Simsbury 40 years ago. Peter was a Senior Industrial Engineer at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford for 37 years prior to his retirement and was a Retired Major of the Quartermaster Department of the First Company Governors Foot Guard of the Hartford Armory. After retirement he pursued his lifelong love of horticulture, growing unusual shrubs, specializing in Rhododendrons on his property in Simsbury. He was a member of many horticultural organizations including the Connecticut Horticultural Society and the American Rhododendron Society. Most people will remember "Pete" as the guy with the hat on his head, unlit cigar in his mouth and shovel in his hand. He always said that working in the garden was good mental and physical therapy and practiced what he preached until his eye sight failed him five years ago. He was quick with a joke and ready with good advice, always willing to share his knowledge. His colorful personality and generous nature will be sorely missed. May God rest his soul. He is survived by a daughter, Miriam Johnson of Avon; a son and daughter-in-law, Louis and Nancy Tabol of Farmington; four grandchildren, David Tabol and his wife Nicole of Farmington, Laurel Johnson and her husband Tony Ferreira of Windsor, Elaine Byers and her husband Brian of Winsted and Greta Lauro and her husband Bryce of Avon; two great grandsons, Trey Lauro and Matthew Tabol; a sister, Katherine Simcic of Hartford; a brother, Stanley Tabol of Framingham, MA and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Walter Tabol of Pennsylvania. Friends may call at the Vincent Funeral Home, 120 Albany Turnpike, Canton, TODAY, July 30, 3-6 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, July 31, 10 a.m. at the Church of St. Ann, 289 Arch Road, Avon. Sorry I was away and just learned of the passing of Peter, I worked with Peter some 16 years and later attend the retiree meetings with him. Buzz Collins would bring him to the meetings as his eye sight got worse, but he had that wit about him always. My late uncle Clint Bragg and Peter were friends for years and years. May you find happiness in remembering he had such a full and happy life.

Miriam, I can still see your Dad walking around the backyard in Hartford in a white shirt, hat and that cigar that was never lit doing the lawn. I hope your heart is not heavy and becomes lifted with many, many fond memories. God Bless you and your daughters.
