Peter Wielhouwer Obituary

Peter William Wielhouwer, 82, went home to be with his Lord and savior Jesus Christ on May 10, 2023. Son of Gysbrecht (Bert) and Aagje (Aggie) (van der Jagt) Wielhouwer, he was born in 1941, was diagnosed with renal cancer in 2018, and died peacefully at home in Kalamazoo, Mich., with his wife and sons by his side.

Pete was a kind, gentle, and loving man, who cared deeply about others. He was born in Boston, grew up in Dorchester, Mass. and married Jane Anderson in 1963; they had two sons, Peter and Philip, and an adopted daughter, Wendy. He graduated from Boston University with a degree in Aeronautical Technology, joined the US Air Force in 1963 and, later, the Connecticut Air National Guard, retiring at the rank of Lt. Colonel. Pete also worked for Hamilton Standard, Inc. on Apollo Lunar Space projects, and then Combustion Engineering in Windsor, CT for 23 years. He was an active member of his churches, especially Windsor Locks Congregational Church and Berean Baptist Church.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Jane; sons Peter (Deborah) and Philip (Valarie), sister Anna Saltmarsh, ten nieces and nephews, and ten grandchildren: through Peter and Deb: Jonathan (Kelsey), Matthew, Andrew, Lydia (Yeager) Coss, Elizabeth, and Anna; through Phil and Val: Jacob, Brett, Madison, and Ryan. He is predeceased by his parents, brother John, sister Aggie Kennedy, daughter Wendy, and daughter-in-law Kimberly.

I had known Pete while we were both members of the CTANG and always had the deepest respect for him. May the Lord grant his family the Peace and Comfort that transcends all understanding.

Jane and Family: I have such fond memories of Pete and Jane over the years , and missed you a lot when you moved to MI. Pete was truly kind and caring, always willing to help. Jane, you are loved from afar, and you have my empathy at this time, as I had yours in similar times. You and Pete were an example to me and my family. God bless you.
