Philip Levere Obituary

Philip Levere, 65, of Tucson, AZ, died in Tucson, AZ on October 9, 2023.

He was born in Hartford, CT in 1958 to Lucia (DiBella) Levere and Gilbert Levere.

Phil attended West Hartford public schools and graduated from Hall High School before attending the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) in Hyde Park, NY.

He is survived by his wife, Michelle; daughter, Savannah Wright, husband Jake; grandsons Easton and Mason Wright. Son, Matthew Levere, wife Kristin, grandson, Jaxson. Siblings, Marty Levere; Carole Montano, husband Michael; Alan Levere, wife Linda; Larry Levere, wife Suzanne.

Phil grew up in a West Hartford neighborhood where lasting friendships were formed playing sports with neighborhood kids. As an adult, Phil was fortunate to meet Michelle Macdonald in 1983 when they were working in Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming. Once married, Phil and Michelle traveled and lived in various locations as their family grew. Savannah was born in Alaska, and Matt was born in Virginia. They landed back in CT for a while, before eventually settling in Tucson, AZ.

In AZ, Phil continued his love of meeting new people and for hosting friends and family for fabulous meals. He also began acting in community theater, participating in playwriter's groups, and he even self-published a book of his essays.

Phil showed us how to live life to the fullest, with a ton of gratitude for each and every day, and his wife, children, and grandchildren meant the world to him.

Family and friends are welcome to attend the services in loving memory of Phil:

Even though I didn't see Phil for a few years, or talk to him in the last month, I feel there is a huge void in my life knowing that never again will I pick up the phone and hear "hey Harris!" Phil has a great sense of humor and always made me and Kent laugh. He will be missed by so many in so many ways.

I met and worked with Phil at Jackson Lake Lodge in the Grand Tetons during the summer of 1983. He was a phenominal sous chef and leader who was liked and well respected by all who worked for him. And while Phil and I (along with John Kennedy) did have some misadventures that summer, we remained good friends for the next 40 years. Phil handled adversity with more grace and class than anyone I have known and my admiration for him grew over the years. I will always miss his impish smile and sharp wit. While I am saddened by Phil's passing and will miss him greatly, my sadness is tempered by knowing that Phil lived life to the fullest. As Phil would say: Bottoms up, my friend.
