PRITZKAU, Philo T. Philo T. Pritzkau, 102, of Leeds, MA, died Saturday, (May 22, 2004) at Cooley-Dickinson Hospital. Born in Napoleon, ND, March 17, 1902, he was the son of the late Johann and Elinor Pritzkau. He was educated in Napoleon and graduated from High School in Burnstad, ND. He attended Valparaiso University, received his Bachelor's degree from the University of Chicago and his Masters and PhD in Educational Philosophy from Columbia. He had taught in schools in Cheyenne, WY and the surrounding area early on in his career. He came east to UCONN, Storrs in 1947. He retired from UCONN in 1972 as Director of Curriculum in the School of Education. Following his retirement he lived on Cape Cod and moved to Northampton in 1979. He authored a number of books including "Growing Up in North Dakota", which he wrote when he was in his eighties. He was a member of the Florence Congregational Church. He was interested in politics, children and children's welfare. Philo was also an avid fan of UCONN Women's Basketball. His wife, the late Madonna G. Moss, died in 1994. He leaves his daughter, Patricia MacLachlan of Williamsburg; three grandchildren, John MacLachlan of Kigoma, Tanzania, Africa, Jamison MacLachlan of Jamaica Plains, MA, and Emily Charest of Stow, MA; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at the Pease Funeral Home, 425 Prospect Street, Northampton, with burial at Spring Grove Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. only. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Philo Pritzkau Scholarship Fund, School of Education established in his name at UCONN or to the Friends of the Williamsburg Library, P.O. Box 46, Williamsburg, MA 01096.
