I reread the Obituary last night and his love for cycling triggered a long ago memory. Bro Ralph always led us out on bike rides but on this summer day we headed out on our 1 speed Schwinns for what turned out to be an 80 mile adventure. Running from Ipswich at the school to my home in Haverhill and lunch served by my mom. Then on to Lawrence and Steve Dumais house, from there out through Andover, Beverly and back to Ipswich. I learned years later he got quite a chewing out. But what an adventure for 16 and 17 year olds.

I am just learning of this at this late date. My Condolences to the family on your loss. Doc (Brother Ralph to me) was a major influence in my life. This guy had a major impact on my life. He was one of my teachers in the Seminary in Ipswich. Taught me to wrestle, weight lift, run track, camp and survive in the woods, we built the entire stage, the sets and the lighting for the school Drama Club together. He was my math teacher, Biology and Chemistry Teacher, band leader and Choir Director. He piqued my interest in so many things that carried on throughout my life. Summer stock in Gloucester MA, College Musicals, Biology Major, and eventually Construction from carpenter to Upper Level Management in National Companies. Probably my favorite was a some 50 year involvement in Scouting. Camps, Canoe and Kayak adventures, hiking, Sailing and Scuba instructor. There are many people that touch our lives and influence us and this guy, Brother Ralph, as I always called him was in the top 10. You will be missed but we shall meet again my friend!

We are so sorry to read of Ralph’s passing. The Giarnella family always played a major roll during our NBYSL Strikers team years. We have so many memories of the end of the season team parties at your home. Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers.
