Ray DeCormier Obituary

Ray Armand DeCormier, PhD, Professor Emeritus, 75, of East Berlin, CT, lost his courageous 2yr battle with cancer on May 1,2022, surrounded by the love of his family. Ray was born in Rumford ME, to the late Armand and Irene (Fontaine) DeCormier. Ray was raised in Fairfield CT. He graduated from Roger Ludlow HS, having been a star athlete and student. Ray won the Decathlon and held a record for the longest pass as quarterback. Ray earned a BS degree in Business Administration, from CCSC; an MBA from UCONN; and a Doctoral degree from the Univ. of Bradford, Bradford, England. After College, Ray had a variety of jobs ranging from accounting to sales. In the 80's he opened and ran Boston McGees, one of the largest nightclubs in Ct. He went on to become a Professor of Marketing at CCSU, where he chaired the Marketing Department for several years. Ray was a gifted man, with great insight; He used his gifts wisely, always seeing the big picture, and planning accordingly. He had many interests, and always had a project in the works. Ray (aka Justin Kaace) loved to sing, dance, and perform; loved being a Monday night Karaoke DJ at the Pineloft in Berlin; His greatest joy was holding monthly 'Special Friends' dances at the VFW for his daughter and her friends. He had a great sense of humor, always ready with a joke. He also loved to debate. Ray served on the Board of CW Resources; He was Coach for his daughter's Challenger little league team. He designed and built his house at Amston Lake, he served as Treasurer for the Amston Lake Tax District for many years, where he brought the Budget under control and was able to reduce taxes. Ray's latest project was a luxury home development 'DECORMIER WOODS' in East Berlin. It brought him joy to name the street 'Brittanys Path' after his daughter Brittany. Ray had also written a book," Creating Your Own World", which is scheduled to be published this summer. The book explains the philosophy by which Ray lived, to make things happen in his life. Ray is survived by and will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 48 years, Frances (Urban) DeCormier, and their special daughter Brittany DeCormier of East Berlin; sisters Joyce DeCormier of Colchester; Carol (Joseph) Balducci of Jensen Beach, Fla.; Grace (Richard) Baril of Woodstock, CT and many nieces and nephews. Ray was predeceased by his sister Linda DeCormier. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, May 9 2022, at 11:30 am at St. Paul's Church, 485 Alling St, Kensington, CT, burial will follow in Wilcox Cemetery 273 Berlin St., East Berlin, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Jude's Research hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis TN, 38105.

I am so sorry for your loss of Ray.
Ray was probably the best patron at the Forestville movie theater I opened and ran 20 years ago. He often brought his family on the weekend and then showed up during the week with his best friend, and all the time I never knew he was coming all the way from East Berlin. He always had a humorous attitude and wished the best for me and my business with his patronage. It seems he lived a very eventful and meaningful life. I'm glad I had the experience of knowing Ray. - Hopefully they have cinemas in heaven !

With My Deepest Condolences To The DeCormier Family!
Dear Grace, and family, I am so very sorry for the loss of your brother Ray
I remember meeting him once, years ago when you lived on Arch st. in New Britain. I remember how warm, and welcoming he was when we met! I also met other sisters. When reading his obituary, I could tell that he was a very well known man and into so many things! Well Grace, now I know where you got your love for music, and dancing from! It´s been years, however I must say that good friends, and good people, are thought of often! Linda, working at OIC. I just found out TODAY, that you all lost your brother Ray. I didn´t know that you also lost Linda too! A friend of Ray´s just told me all of this today! Again I send my heartfelt condolences to the family
So sorry for your loss
Grace, if you ever feel like calling me, here´s my number, 860-224-3810
I would love to hear from you!
Sent with warm love and condolences

I first met Ray over twenty years ago, during my interview at CCSU. He was Chair of the Marketing Department. Ray was a cheerful man. After he retired he would still show up occasionally to teach a class in personal selling, his favorite marketing area. I was not aware that he wasn't feeling well for the last two years. So it's quite shocking for me to stumble upon this news. Ray will be deeply missed at CCSU. It was a pleasure working with him. Keeping his family in my thoughts and prayers.

Fran,

Thanks for letting me know that Ray wasn´t in pain. It sounds just like Ray to keep moving forward, regardless of the situation, onward to the next great challenge.

I will forever treasure the recent day Ray and I spent together. I wanted to drive so he wouldn´t get tired, but Ray insisted that he chauffer me. How Ray is that? It was a perfect day. Nice weather, breakfast at Rays favorite diner where everyone knew him, a pleasant trip down to the lake, a tour of the town and lake, quiet time and a cranberry drink at your lake house, great conversation with a friend, and a return trip to Berlin where you, Ray and I chatted for a while. Thank you so much for letting me have Ray for the day.

Yes Fran, Ray and I always did have a good time together. Ray has gifted me many memorable memories; I will miss him dearly.

All my love to you and Brittany,

Art

Too many "Ray" stories to tell here. It was never a dull moment with him around.
He cannot be replaced, how lucky we are to have known him.
As the Lebanese poet Kahlil Gibran wrote:
"When you are sorrowful, look deep within your heart and you shall find that in truth you are grieving for that which has been your delight"
Love you my brother.
