Raymond Kimball Obituary

Raymond E. "Pops" Kimball, "The Tin Man", beloved father, grandfather, brother and dear friend, peacefully passed away Sunday, June 5, 2016 at Hartford Hospital. Ray was born May 19, 1941 and raised in East Hartford, CT, one of ten children to William L. and Marion (Koropatkin) Kimball. While attending East Hartford High, Ray was voted "Best Dressed" along with being an amazing dancer, both of which remained with him until present. After high school, Ray enlisted in the US Army; he was attached to the MP division. During the Army, he was a Golden Glove Boxer in the Welter Weight division. Once discharged from the military, Ray drove an armored car for Dunbar Armored Incorporated. During this time Ray met his soul mate, his beloved Angela Rita Sanzo while on his route. They married June 22, 1963 and soon thereafter started a family. Angela preceded Ray to Heaven April 2012. Ray came from a long line of sheet metal workers; he started as an assistant to his father, learning the sheet metal fabrication / tin knocking business. After retiring from RE Michels, he continued his trade with his son-in-law David and grandson Carlton, while teaching and mentoring Carlton on the trade so he can continue to carry on the business. Ray and his son-in-law David co-owned Stevens Duct in Glastonbury. Ray had many wonderful attributes, he was a skilled fisherman, an avid Red Sox fan, and was best noted for his big heart, never hesitating and selflessly assisting those less fortunate. He always remembered where he came from. Ray will be dearly missed and never forgotten by his loving family, two daughters and sons-in-law, Kim and Robert Fill of Whately, MA, Jill and David Stevens of Glastonbury; a son and daughter-in-law, Ray W. and Sarah Kimball of Glastonbury; nine siblings, Robert Kimball (Judy) of East Hartford, William L. Kimball (Pat) of St. Petersburg, FL, Russell Kimball (Larayne) of New Britain, George Kimball of East Hartford, Barbara Kimball and Donna Hollis both of Glastonbury, Joy Hopkins (Bernard) of East Hartford, Cheryl Faccinto (Rocky) and Patty Rheiner (Lew) all of St. Petersburg, FL; his six cherished grandchildren, Connor & Ashley Fill, Carlton Stevens, Delaney, Bailey and Cooper Kimball; and his dear friend, his goombah, Gino Torcasio. Gino & Pops' favorite pass time was their trips to the casino. In addition to his wife and parents, Ray was predeceased by his grandson, Bradley Raymond Stevens. Friends and relatives may pay their respects to the family Friday, June 10, 2016 from 4-7pm at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 50 Naubuc Ave., Glastonbury. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, June 11th at 10am in St. Paul Church, 2577 Main St., Glastonbury (all attendees are asked to go directly to the church). Private burial will be held at the convenience of the family. The Kimball family requests in lieu of flowers and suggest memorial donations be made to The East Hartford Community Shelter, 383-385 Main St., East Hartford, CT 06108, Hartford Hospital, the Helen and Harry Gray Cancer Center, 85 Retreat Ave., Hartford, CT 06106 or The Connecticut Children's Medical Center, 282 Washington St., Hartford CT 06106.
