Raymond Watson Obituary

Raymond C. Watson, 86, of West Hartford died Sunday, (October 7, 2001), after a courageous battle with cancer. He was a well known former owner and operator of the Modern Tire Recapping Company of Elmwood West Hartford. During the end of the Great Depression he employed numerous needy people. Raymond was an avid Horseman who loved the outdoors and was a former member of Troop A Calvary and the West Hartford Lions Club. Raymond enjoyed gardening and many sports during his years of retirement. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Beverly of many years; three caring children, Arthur "Buzz" Watson and his wife, Lynda of Portland and Jacquelyn Rae Welsh of Clinton; a special granddaughter, Melanie Ember Kelley and her husband, Edward of Cromwell; and four adored great grandchildren, Andrew, Thomas, Joshua and Nathaniel. Raymond also leaves to mourn his passing three brothers, William Watson and his wife, Dorothy of Glastonbury, George Watson and his wife, Flo of Meriden, Frederick Watson and his wife, Nina of Ocala, FL; and a sister, Carolyn Davis of West Hartford. He also leaves a good friend and brother-in-law Frank Utley of Bristol; and many nieces and nephews. A Funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at the Taylor and Modeen Funeral Home, 136 S. Main St., West Hartford. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. A calling hour will be held Thursday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the Funeral Home.
