Reinhold A. Dorwart and Harry J. Marks were my advisors and mentors in the University of Connecticut History Department almost forty years ago. Reiny and I remained in touch through the years. He was an impressive, forceful lecturer; a role model; and a good friend who gave my life much of its direction.
