Richard Coleman Obituary

Rachael Ann (Bump) Coleman, 92 of Port Saint Lucie, FL, passed away Saturday January 11, 2020. Rachael was born on July 10, 1927. Daughter of the late Henry and Julia (Post) Bump in Ivorytown, CT. She graduated from Pratt High School in 1943, and attended nursing school with the Cadet Nurse Corps, that was created by Congress to help alleviate the nursing shortage during World War II. With the help of Cadet Nurse Corps, Rachael became a registered nurse and worked at Middelsex Memorial Hospital in the operating room until she met a handsome baseball player named Robert Edward Coleman whose family owned and operated the Middletown-based carnival, Coleman Brothers Shows. She married Robert on January 21, 1950 and together they had 5 children, 8 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. As a family they operated Coleman Brothers Shows until they retired to their winter home in Port Saint Lucie, FL. In 2012 where they lived out the remainder of their lives together until Robert's passing in 2017. Rachael was also an accomplished sculptor and received a nomination for "Doll of the Year" in the late 1980's for creating an original porcelain collectible doll fashioned after her youngest daughter called "Thoroughly Modern Missy." She will always be remembered for her sharp wit and quick tongue and fiercely independent spirit which was admired by many and will be remembered by all that knew her. She is survived by her loving family: son Robert Edward Coleman Jr. and his wife, Linda Carta Coleman, her son Timothy Joseph Coleman and his wife Arlene Scott Coleman, her daughter Mary Ellen Oakes and her husband Anthony Vincent Oakes, and her daughter, Melissa Ann Coleman; her grandchildren Kelly Ann Coleman, Robert Joseph Coleman, Timothy Richard Coleman, Rachael Tonia Oakes, Anthony Vincent Oakes, Jr, Kristy Lee Coleman, Keely Shea Oakes, and Julia Rhiannon Brodzinski, and her great-grandchildren Britney Marie Coleman, Gavin Richard Coleman, Mackenzie Lynn Coleman and Madelyn Tatalias Oakes. She is preceded by her husband, Robert Edward Coleman Sr., daughter, Julie Ann Coleman, sisters, Julia Maynard, Myrtle Comstock, Iris Anderson, Eunice Kelting and her brother, Henry Bump. Memorial donations can be made to the Treasure Coast Hospice. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 21st at 12 noon in the Coughlin-Lastrina Funeral Home, 491 High St., Middletown. Burial will be in the family plot in Indian Hill Cemetery, Middletown. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 21st from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
