Richard A. Coombs

Richard A. Coombs (Dick), 90, of Glastonbury, CT, widower of Virginia Keihm Coombs and Winona Toon Coombs, close friend of the late Alice Robinson, passed peacefully, Feb. 6, 2017. He was born in Hartford, son to the late Richard E. Coombs and Sarah Edwards Coombs. Dick proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion. Dick was employed as a pharmaceutical salesman for many years, spending the last 10 years of his career working for Senior Services in Glastonbury, driving the Dial-A-Ride van. He is survived by his 3 children and their families: Sandra Coombs Zielinski and her husband Steve of CT; Richard G. Coombs and his wife Alison of TX; Scott E. Coombs and his wife Linda of Rhode Island. He also leaves 8 grandchildren: Jessica, Rebecca, Monica, Lauren, Bren, Ethan, Breanna and Katherine; and 5 great-grandchildren: Sophie, Gracie, Charlie, Sam and Adelynn. Visitation hours will be Friday, March 17, 2017 from 4-7pm at the Glastonbury Funeral Home, 450 New London Tpke., Glastonbury. His funeral will begin Saturday, March 18, 2017, a brief gathering from 9:30-10:30am at the funeral home, with his Celebration of Life at 11AM at the Buckingham Congregational Church, 16 Cricket Lane, Glastonbury. Pastor Sara Worcester will be officiating. Military honors will conclude the service. Interment service will be held at a later date.
