I may not have known your Dad, but reading people's memories of him, especially his students', perfectly described you, Mark. He was just cool: funny, well-rounded, a caring person. What a wonderful Dad and role model he was to you. I'm very sorry for your loss.

Please accept my sincerest condolences. My thoughts and prayers are with you. You are not alone during this time. You can pour out your heart to God in prayer and He will give you strength and comfort and peace. Psalms 9:9,10 says God will become a secure refuge for those seeking Him, He will never abandon them. God will never abandon you.

I was fortunate enough to have Mr. Hansen as my teacher of American History for both 7th & 8th grades at Silas Deane Jr. High. Not only did I love going to his class, I learned so much that decades later, I wish I could take his classes all over again. (Those outlines!) He was so interested in history, made it come alive, and respected us as individuals -- even us snot-nosed jr. high schoolers. Plus, he was just cool: funny, well-rounded, a caring person. We knew he wanted us to succeed. Also, since he and my dad were good friends and tennis buddies, I got to see him outside of school occasionally, and hear about him over the years. When he and his wonderful wife Janet showed up last year at my dad's memorial service in Vermont, it was the first time I had seen him in decades. I latched onto him, delighted in being able to tell him how much his teaching meant to me, to introduce him to my husband, and to have his wise, loving presence there, a great connection to my dad. Janet, all of his large great family: what a great man. I am so sorry for your loss. What a long, great life and legacy.

So saddened to learn of coach Hansen's passing.
A very kind man who earned and deserved respect from all who were fortunate to know him. My days at WHS on the Championship tennis team are full of fond memories thanks to coach. Heaven is a better place with his addition.
Respectfully Bob Wolf WHS class of 1967

Loved Mr Hansen as a history teacher.... I remember him telling us we could either memorize the Gettysburg address or General Order no 9 (Robert E Lee's written speech at the end of the Civil War). I chose to memorize that one and he didn't have a copy in front of him to check whether or not I did it correctly.... we all had a good laugh. He was a great history teacher.

Robert was my favorite teacher at Wethersfield. He made history a fascinating subject and had a way of bring situations of the past and relating them to today's world.
Always genial and friendly he made a lasting impression on me and I always remember him. Reading his obituary...wow, what a life he had.
My condolences to the family.

Holly and family- I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your dad. I fondly remember him as my favorite homeroom teacher and he actually made American history class interesting,( I may still have my Bill of Rights project somewhere). And I know my father enjoyed playing tennis with him, though I bet your dad was the winner most often!
I am sure your happy memories of him will help at this difficult time. Anne Moriarty Reiher

To the Hansen Family:
I had Mr. Hansen for history in 1965 and 1966 at Silas Deane Junior High School and he made it come alive. I love history in a large part because of Mr. Hansen and think of him often.

Mr. Hansen was my junior high history teacher - somewhat intimidating as it was not my best subject. But it was the summer tennis program that gave me my genuine appreciation for Mr. Hansen. I still talk about the program with friends.Lots of life's lessons learned at the WHS courts whether you were playing your match or playing cards while you waited for the next court. Those hours of tennis carried me into my adult life enjoying the sport. Mrs. Hansen - I am thinking of you all as you celebrate a life well lived and countless lives touched.

Although 25+ years ago, my memories are vivid of our Sunday morning tennis sessions at Trinity College. Bob was one of the core group who so looked forward to our Sundays to play spirited tennis and to be among friends.
Bob was a competitor but would never mope after a loss and was never one to celebrate outlandishly in a win. But he reveled in a well played match. Playing along side of him you knew he always expected himself to play at his best and expected you to do the same!
Thank you, Bob, for those special memories!

I had Mr. Hansen as history teacher in junior high school. He was a wonderful teacher who made American history come alive in the classroom. All the kids loved him as a teacher. He will be missed by many.
