Robert Rudolph Makowski

1926 - 2017

Bob Makowski passed away on January 31, 2017, at the Hospital of Central Connecticut. He was born June 30, 1926, in Hartford Hospital, to R. Otto and Frieda Zahnd Makowski. He attended local schools and graduated from Hartford High School in 1944. Bob grew up in the close knitted section of the city called, "Behind the Rocks." The many close friendships he made still endure today. Bob loved the water and was an avid fisherman and boater. This began when he sailed to Germany in 1935, to spend the summer on his mother's family's farm in Switzerland. Since he was the only young boy on the boat, the crew allowed him to explore. He never forgot the sight from the captain's bridge. He joined the Navy right after high school. He was assigned to destroyer escorts and patrolled the Pacific Ocean. After the Navy, he worked in various home improvement jobs. Then, for the next 25 years, he worked as a sub-contractor applying aluminum siding. He then became employed at INCO for 12 years, and finished his working career as a carpenter. Bob enjoyed all kinds of fishing, but spent most of his time fishing in the Sound. His most favorite place was Rangely Lake in Maine. He took an annual fishing vacation there for over 40 years. Bob leaves his beloved wife, Henrietta, who he married in 1951, and his sons, Michael R. Makowski, of Middletown, and Robert J. Makowski, of Rochester, NH. He also leaves a niece, Crystal Pelletier, of Bristol, and grand-nieces, Tara White, of New Hartford, and Lauren Pelletier, of Hendersonville, NC. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2017, at 11a.m., in the Rose Hill Funeral Home, 58 Elm St., Rocky Hill. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park, with military honors.
