WEST, Robert E.
Robert E. West, 78 of South Windsor, beloved husband of 52 years to Priscilla West, passed away peacefully Thursday (March 15, 2012) after a brief illness. He was born in Hartford on June 1, 1933 and was a son of the late Frank and Cecelia (Gleason) West. A graduate of Weaver High School and later Bryant College in 1958, Robert majored in finance and worked for the IRS for ten years before beginning his career as an accountant for the State of CT. After retirement in 1999, he enjoyed spending time with his family and watching sports, especially the Uconn Men's Basketball and Boston RedSox. Robert was also an avid golfer who loved being out on the green. He settled in South Windsor in 2004 where he attended St. Francis of Assisi Church and was active in the Knights of Columbus. In addition to his wife Priscilla, Robert leaves two sons, Thomas West of East Hartford and Michael West and his wife Janice of Southwick, MA; and two daughters, Diane Godi and her husband Thomas of Bolton and Karen Drouin and her husband Francis of South Windsor; seven grandchildren, Justin, Jillian, Jessica, Dominic, Jeffrey, Danielle, and Rachel; and a sister-in-law, Deenie West and a brother-in-law, James Cummingham, both of Simsbury. He was predeceased by a sister, Carol Cunningham and a brother, Richard West.
Family and friends may gather Tuesday (March 20) at 9 a.m. at Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Rd. in South Windsor, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church in South Windsor and burial at Mount St. Benedict Cemetery in Bloomfield. His family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
