Rodney Midford Obituary



Rodney "Rod" Midford, 91, of Glastonbury and formerly of South Windsor, beloved husband of 69 years to Charlotte (Marks) Midford, passed away on Monday, March 2, 2015. Born in Bridgeport, the son of the late Roland and Ethel (Olmstead) Midford, he grew up in Manchester and lived in Ellington, Bolton, South Windsor and retired to Fort Myers, FL. He was a graduate of Manchester High School before serving in the U. S. Navy during World War II. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Connecticut, Class of 1949. He worked for Standard Builders in Hartford for more than 25 years before becoming a partner and president of Industrial Construction Company in Newington from 1972 until he retired in 1990. He and Charlotte enjoyed traveling, and they traveled to England, Ireland, China and India. Rod was an avid golfer, amateur radio operator, boater, car enthusiast and he enjoyed any electronic gadget that he could get his hands on. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Mark Midford and his wife Doreen of Manchester, Gil Midford and his wife Deborah of South Windsor, Ron Midford and his wife Doreen of Tolland, and Kimberlie Midford of Vernon and her partner Greg Leamon; seven grandchildren, Mark Midford Jr. and his wife Holly, Matthew Midford, Michael Midford and his wife Shanon, Melissa Vaillancourt and her husband Marco, Sarah Ellison and her husband Patrick, Ron Midford Jr. and his wife Renee, and Steven Midford and his wife Emily; nine great grandchildren, Connor, Madelyn, Lily, Harper, Matthew, Noah, Bryce, Ryan and Jordyn. He was also predeceased by his daughter, Denise Gardner, and his brother, Howard Midford. Funeral services and burial will be private and at the convenience of his family. Memorial donations in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, CT Chapter, 200 Executive Boulevard, Southington, CT 06489-1058. We have many fond memories of boating out of Mystic back in the 1960's. I can clearly see the two boats ( we called them the " Twins" ) heading out of the marina on their way to Long Island.
