Ronald Begansky Obituary

Ronald John Begansky, 67, of Simsbury and formerly of Granby, beloved husband of Wendy (Hayes) Begansky, passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 after a brief illness. Born in Hartford on August 16, 1949, son of the late Constantine and Josephine (Marshall) Begansky, he was raised in Hartford before moving to Cromwell with his family as a young boy. Ron attended Cromwell Public Schools and was a graduate of Cromwell High School, Class of 1967. After high school, he continued his education at Hartford School of Accounting and then at Middlesex Community College where he received an Associates Degree in Accounting in 1972. Ron then went on to complete his Bachelors Degree in Accounting at the University of New Haven where he graduated with honors in 1975. He served in the Connecticut Army National Guard for 13 years until his honorable discharge. After living in Wethersfield for a brief time, Ron moved to Granby where he became an active part of the community and lived with his wife for over 30 years. He started his career at an accounting firm in Hartford and shortly after took a position as a head accountant at Valaire, which managed 13 nursing homes throughout Connecticut. In 1982, he became a partner in Connecticut Lab Service and Nutmeg Health which owned five nursing homes in Connecticut. Active in the nursing home industry for many years, Ron also served on the board of directors of the Connecticut Nursing Home Association. In 1988, Ron opened his own accounting firm which he operated until the time of his passing on Hartford Avenue in Granby Center. He served on the board of directors of Northwest Community Bank since 1997 and since 2009 was chairman of the board and of the bank's holding company, the Connecticut Mutual Holding Company. An active part of the Town of Granby for most of his life, Ron was a partner in the Hartford Avenue Association and he was a member of the Granby Chamber of Commerce and had served as president. He enjoyed interacting with other local business owners and could be found each morning and afternoon at Lite-N-Up Eatery in Granby center where he enjoyed the titles of "Mayor of Granby" and "The Bishop." Ron loved to play golf and was a former member of the Suffield Country Club and a longtime member of the Granby Men's Golf League. In his spare time, he enjoyed singing with the Hartford Chorale and with his church choir at the First Congregational Church in Granby where he was a member for many years. He leaves his wife with whom he shared over 30 years of marital bliss, Wendy (Hayes) Begansky of Simsbury; two nephews, Charles "Chuck" Begansky of Fort Smith, AR and David Hayes and his wife Michelle of Shelton; two nieces, Renee Matlock and her husband Chris of Bangor, PA and Jessica Frangiamore and her husband Joe of Enfield; and his close friend, mentor, and business partner of over 40 years, Eddie Voskowsky of Granby. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Robert Begansky. His family will receive friends on Monday, February 6, 4-8 p.m., at the Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook St., Granby. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 7, 12 Noon, at the First Congregational Church of Granby, 219 North Granby Rd., Granby. Burial will follow in Granby Cemetery, Granby. We were very saddened to hear of Ron's passing. He and Wendy were some of our first friends when we moved to Granby in 1991 and we have kept in touch since we moved to Texas in 2005. It is always hard to loose a friend but especially one whose soul was so encompassing.

My husband and I are so saddened to hear of Ron's passing. What a very kind gentleman he was to all at FCC of Granby. Every year, he and his wife Wendy donated Bibles to the 4th Grade Sunday School Students. Their generosity and support of the Sunday School was very much appreciated. Wendy and family are in our prayers.

Ron was a good kid. He and his brother were class acts. The world is a little sadder without him.

The loss of Ron has taken away a friend and a Monday night fixture I have come to know in the 14 years we have sung together at the Hartford Chorale. Ron was a pal; he made us laugh; he helped my mother with taxes. My heart is broken for Wendy. I take comfort knowing that Ron is in a place now where he can sing joyful praises for ever and evermore.

Wendy and the Begansky Family - My sincere condolences. I am so sorry for your loss and I share your sadness. Ron and I were choir members for many years at St. John's Church when we were growing up in Cromwell and we always remained friends. He was a true professional and a hard worker and he always took the time to answer my financial questions or give me and my husband advice. He had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed talking about the good times at Cromwell High School and St. John's. And what a great voice he had! It's sad to think that he counseled so many clients about their retirement plans and he didn't have the chance to enjoy retirement himself. He will always have a special place in our hearts and we will miss him. You are in my prayers.

I am so very sorry to hear of Ron's sudden passing. He was one of the kindest, calmest and most patient men I know. He will be greatly missed. Sending condolences to his wife and family.

Please accept my condolences for your loss. In the Holy Scriptures King Solomon concluded, "there is nothing better for them than to rejoice and do good during their life, also that everyone should eat and drink and find enjoyment for all his hard work. It is the gift of God." ( Ecclesiastical chapter three and verses twelve and thirteen). Ronald found the gift of hard work and shared it with others which enriched their lives. May you have the continued support of family and friends during this most difficult times.

Wendy,I am so very sorry to hear of Ron's passing. He was a class act and good man. I worked with Ron when he was active in the Connecticut Association of Health Care Facilities. He and Ed Voskowsky were such great friends and I know Ron's passing has left a great hole in all of your hearts.
