Roy Florian Obituary
Roy Steuart Florian, known affectionately to all as Benny, passed away at Bristol Hospital on August 15, 2016 at the age of 86. Surrounded by the many that loved him, he succumbed to the trials of age with dignity and strength. He leaves his loving and devoted wife of 37 years, June Florian, who cared tenderly for him during his last years. Roy was born the first child of R. Steuart and Ethel ToIles Florian on April 3, 1930 at Hartford Hospital. He resided throughout his life in Southington, CT, Brooklin, ME, and various places throughout Florida including his last residence in Everglades City. He studied agriculture at the University of Connecticut at Storrs, and at the University of Maine at Orono. Roy was a successful businessman with many enterprises to his credit. His primary occupation was manufacturer of metal stampings. He founded AAA Metal Stamping in Southington, CT in 1961, where it grew and thrived. As his career developed, his company transformed and became Nickson Industries, a manufacturer of aftermarket automotive parts and he also created a real estate partnership known as Factory Square. His position at both ventures was president and CEO. His professional interest in metalworking, engineering, and manufacturing translated well into the many different aspects that were his personal life. Roy was a man with a brilliant mind who wore many hats. He was a toolmaker, engineer, and carpenter. He built, alongside his wife's brothers and grandsons, his retirement home in Brooklin, ME and his son, Rex's, house in Blue Hill, ME. During his service in the United States Marine Corps, he was a member of the state champion rifle team at Great Lakes, IL. Roy loved salt water fishing and hunting. His last hunting trip was in the mountains of Pennsylvania with his son, Lance. He was a licensed instrument pilot and enjoyed flying back and forth between Connecticut and Maine. He was a lifelong member of the NRA and a certified diver. He leaves his brothers and their spouses, Don Allen (Nancy) of Southington, CT, David (Honey) of Southington, CT and Nathaniel (Judy) of Farmington, CT. He also leaves his sister, Diana Florian Chase (Dr. Raymond Chase deceased) of Blue Hill, ME and his sister-in-law, Stella Florian of Southington, CT. He was predeceased by his brothers Jonathan and Walter. Other than his siblings, he leaves many nieces and nephews who love their Uncle Benny. Roy was a wonderful father and grandfather. He will be missed by all his children, Rex Florian of Blue Hill, ME, Lance Florian of Southington, CT, Tiger Florian of Naples, FL, Samantha Florian Pullaro of Madison, CT, Penny Eisenhauer Keppler of Burlington, CT, Kim Eisenhauer Gardner, of Southington, CT, and Jeffery Eisenhauer of Surry, ME. Roy was predeceased by his children David Florian and Charles Eisenhauer. He also leaves behind many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Along with being a very loving husband, Roy would be described as humble, generous, and fun by all that have known and loved him. Roy was a soft-spoken man who could enter a room full of strangers, and before his departure, would know something about each and every one of them. He gave to charitable causes with humility and anonymity, never wanting public credit for his deeds. He was a man of his word and lived by the creed that actions always spoke louder than words. He was the best of friends to his friends, the best of fathers to his children, and the best of the best to the rest. We would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Andrew Guest for being his caring physician for over 30 years. In his last year of life, we would like to thank Dr. Margarita Reyes for her exceptional home care, and to those at Bristol Hospital, staff and doctors, who provided exceptional and compassionate care in his final days. His funeral and interment was private and held in Brooklin, ME. Donations in his memory may be made to the Ark Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 276, Cherryfield, ME 04622, or to David Kingsley Florian Scholarship Fund, Avon Old Farms School, Avon, CT 06001. He will be missed. Semper Fi.
