Russell Post Obituary



On November 14th, 2015, Rusty passed away peacefully from complications with Alzheimer's. He was 78. Rusty was born in New York City in 1937 to Emily Lord and Russell Lee Post, Sr. He attended Groton, Yale, and Yale Law School and sang with the Whiffenpoofs. He lived in Canton, CT for 23 years. In 1961, he worked at Shipman and Goodwin Law Firm and became a partner. In the early 1970's, he opened his own firm with partner Laurence Pratt. He served on the board of Westledge School in Simsbury, CT and was a member of the Monday Evening Club. In 1972, he was elected to the State Legislature, serving in the House and Senate for 10 years. He sponsored many bills, including the Bottle Bill and the Sunset Law, Farmland Preservation, and Recurrent Criminals Acts. In 1984, he traveled to the then Soviet Union on the Volga River Peace Cruise, helping draft the Volga Declaration. In the early 1990s he moved to Orcas Island, WA, where he obtained his real estate license. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce and a weekly writer's group. Rusty is predeceased by his sister Deborah Post Cunningham. He is survived by his wife, Debbie Post; his niece Lee Cunningham Gardner; his children, Rusty Post, Lincoln Post (Emily), Katherine Post, Alison Post (Jason Lerner), Keri Lago (Ed) and Joe Duenn. His grandchildren include Rowan, Anna, and Haley Post, Sonja and Iris Lerner, Alanna, Diego, and Remy Lago. In honor of his memory, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer's Association. A memorial service will be held on January 9th, 2016 on Orcas Island. Please contact the family at [email protected] for details.
