Ruth Seifert Obituary

Ruth F. Seifert, 98, of Storrs, widow of J. Stephen Seifert, died peacefully on Wednesday, (November 6, 2002) at the home of her daughter in Mansfield. She was born November 5, 1904 in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of Joseph and Matilda (Hobohn) Franz and had lived all her life in Richmond Hill, NY before moving to Storrs five years ago where she was a member of the Mansfield Senior Center and Storrs Congregational Church. She was a beloved teacher in the New York City Public School System, teaching kindergarten through third grade for many years. Mrs. Seifert was a long time member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Richmond Hill, Queens, NY. She was also an accomplished musician, an avid gardener and lover of poetry whose deep faith sustained her for nearly 100 years. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Howard Drescher of Mansfield; two grandchildren, Jennifer and Karen Drescher of Mansfield; two sisters, Emily Franz and Carol Franz, both of Storrs; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Sunday, 2 p.m. at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Rte. 195, Willimantic. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Maspeth, NY. Kindly omit flowers. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to NAMI-CT (National Alliance for the Mentally Ill), 30 Jordan La., Wethersfield, CT 06109.
