ARENA, Hon. Salvatore Francis Honorable Salvatore Francis Arena, 67, of Portland, Sturbridge, MA, and Port St. Lucie, FL, died suddenly Monday, (July 4, 2005), of cancer. Born November 12, 1937 in Brooklyn, NY, he moved to Portland in 1940. Son of the late Anthony and Maria "Mary" (Marano) Arena, he is survived by his wife, Christine P. (Brown) Arena; their two children, Robert A. Arena, Esq. of Providence, RI and Christine M. Arena of Arlington, VA, and the family's beloved dog, Bogart. He is also survived by his brother, Anthony J. Arena, M.D. and his wife, Mary Lou of Stuart, FL; as well as several nieces and nephews. Judge Arena received an A.B. from Brown University and a J.D. from the Columbia University School of Law. From 1964 to 1985, he was a self-employed Attorney at Law in Portland. In 1985, he was appointed a Judge of the State of Connecticut Superior Court. He served on the bench until his retirement in November 2002. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:15 a.m. from the Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St., Middletown followed by an 11 a.m. Funeral Liturgy at St. Mary Church, Portland. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery, Portland. Friends may call at the Biega Funeral Home Thursday from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made, in Judge Arena's name, to the following organizations for which his children are active volunteers: Providence Habitat for Humanity, PO Box 37, Providence, RI 02907 and Alexandria Court Appointed Special Advocates, 2212 Mt. Vernon Ave., Alexandria, VA 22301.
