Salvatore Failla Obituary

FAILLA, Salvatore P. Salvatore P. Failla died Thursday (July 5, 2007) at John Dempsey Hospital with his family at his side after a long courageous battle with cancer. A native of Winsted, son of the late Frank and Francesca (Bucceri) Failla. He attended Connecticut State College and received his degree at General Motors Institute in Flint, Michigan. Sal began his career with MDC as lifeguard at Compensation Reservoir retiring in 1989 as Purchasing Director after 35 years of service. He was a former member of the Elks and Knights of Columbus in Winsted and The Farmington Exchange Club. While serving in the armed forces he was stationed in Munich, Germany, traveling extensively through Europe. Besides his wife Patti (Youmatz) Failla he is survived by a son, Michael Angelo and his wife Kellie Ann of Unionville, three grandchildren: Ryleigh Ann, Carson Paul, and Jamie Richard, a brother, Anthony Failla of Winsted, a sister, Josephine (Failla) Tudjek and her husband Joseph of Estero, Florida, his nieces, Bonnie Richard of Afton, TN, Antoinette Failla of Winsted and Krista Fitzpatrick of Flourtown, PA, nephews and extended family, Mary and Stephen Petronio and children of Newington. Sal was a gentle man with a great passion for life. He will be greatly missed by all that were fortunate enough to have known him. The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Robert Seigel, and his staff, Iris, Carmen and Laurie, Dr. Stephen Kastoff, and the Doctors and staff at Avon Medical Center, Hospice care for their care and compassion during Sal's illness. Friends may call at The Ahern Funeral Home, 111 Main St., Rt. 4, Unionville, Friday morning, July 13 from 9-10 a.m. Funeral procession from The Ahern Funeral Home will be Friday at 10 a.m. followed by the Funeral Liturgy in St. Joseph's Church, Winsted at 11 a.m. Burial with full military honors will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Winsted. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sal's memory to Service for the Elderly, care of Nancy Walker, 321 New Britain Ave., Unionville, CT 06085 or Autism Society of Connecticut, PO Box 1404, Guilford, CT 06437.
