Sam BABA Obituary

BABA, Sam S. Sam S. Baba, 86, of Newington, departed from this life on January 14, 2011. Born in New Britain, CT on July 8, 1924, to the late Absolom and Gisbas (George) Baba. He was a World War II Navy veteran. He lived in New Britain for 38 years until he married his beloved wife Annette (Sargis) Baba and moved to Newington in 1963. He was employed by CL&P for 33 years, retiring at age 62. Sam was a member of the YMCA for 50 years, enjoyed the competition of playing handball and racquetball, swimming and exercising. He was also a member of the New Britain Lodge of Elks. After his marriage, he became active in the St. Thomas Assyrian Church, where he was President of the Executive Committee, Chairman of the Building Committee of the Ballroom, and lastly was head of the Cemetery Committee. Sam was known for his great smile and just a friendly man. Besides his wife Annette, he leaves two sons, Steven and Gregory; his brother, Edward Baba and his wife Marie, two nieces Ann and Mary; and many cousins and friends. The family wishes to thank Amberwoods of Farmington, where he spent the last seven years of his life. In particular, all the staff of station 2, for their 24 hour care. Funeral services will be held Monday 1 p.m. at St. Thomas Assyrian Church of the East, 120 Cabot Street, New Britain. Burial will be in St. Thomas Assyrian Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Sunday 4 - 7 p.m. at Carlson Funeral Home, 45 Franklin Square, New Britain. Memorial donations may be made to St. Thomas Assyrian Church of the East.
