Samuel Comstock Obituary

COMSTOCK, Samuel M. Samuel M. Comstock, 87, died at Coastal Carolina Hospita on December 28, 2008 after a short illness. Mr. Comstock was born July 1, 1921 and grew up in Ivoryton. He first attended the Fay School in Southborough, MA and matriculated to the Pomfret School in Pomfret graduating in 1938. During World War II, he served with the Army Air Corp in England earning a Purple Heart. After the war he returned to Ivoryton and in 1946 married Frances J. Brooks of Chester. During this same period, Mr. Comstock became a co-founder of Schellens-True, a manufacturer of turbine blades. He was active in the production management until his retirement in 1960. Mr. Comstock is survived by his wife of 62 years, Frances Comstock of Hilton Head, SC; two daughters, Rica Comstock of Holland and Cathy Comstock of Belmont, MA; a son, Woody Comstock and his wife Gretchen of Essex, and three grandchildren, Brooks Comstock of New York City, Isabella Comstock and Alexa Comstock, both of Essex. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to, Storm Eye Institute, MUSC, 167 Ashley Ave., Charleston, SC 29425.
