Stanley Danko Obituary

Stanley M. Danko, 91, of Middletown, husband of the late Constance (Bartolotta) Danko, passed away on September 24th after a long illness. Stan was born to Michael "Mitch" and Valerie "Wally" Danko of Greenwich, CT. Stan stood out as a high school hockey player before joining the navy, where he served as a Torpedoman Second Class aboard the submarine USS Tusk. After leaving the service, Stan attended the University of Hartford and then began a career as a test engineer with Pratt and Whitney Aircraft. Eventually Stan left engineering to sell electrical components to equipment manufacturers throughout New England. Stan met his beloved wife Connie on a blind date and the two were married for 65 years. Stan lived in their Middletown home where he and Connie raised their four children. He remained in that home until his passing. Stan was a friend to all and never spoke ill of anyone. He had many hobbies throughout the years, such as radio-controlled airplanes, slot car racing, tropical fish, as well as ice hockey, skiing, boating, and keeping his cars clean and in top condition. He was an avid sports fan enjoying cheering for the Mets, NY Giants and UConn women's basketball. Stan was predeceased by his wife Connie, his son Nick Misenti and his sister Patricia Crowley. He is survived by his daughter Diana Morgan of Waterbury, his sons Michael Danko (wife Mary) of Woodside, CA, Mark Danko (wife Lisa) of Middletown and his daughter-in-law Bev Misenti of Higganum. He also leaves five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held on Friday September 29th at 12 p.m. at Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill. There are no calling hours. I knew Stan from the Middlesex Aeromodelers radio control airplane club. He was a fine gentleman, very helpful and all-around great guy. He will be missed.

What a wonderful gentleman! I grew up next door to the Dankos. Mr. Danko, as we always called him, even as adults, was the go-to guy for every kind of problem or concern that could happen in a household. Some sort of plumbing or electric issue? Quick! Call Mr. Danko! Model rocket not launching propertly? Where's Mr. Danko? Working on my first car as a teenager and needed some specific wrench that I didn't have? Mr. Danko's garage and basement workbench had every conceivable hand and power tool that a teenager could need. He was our very own Mr. Wizard, if you're old enough to remember that TV science guy. He installed an electric barbeque before most people had their first gas grill. But we would know when the Danko's were cooking outside because whatever he cooked, it smelled fantastic! Mr. Danko took great care of his cars- everybody knows that. His Audis haven't aged a day since he bought them. From his Sunbeam to his 914 to his Rivieras (the last one which looked like a spaceship!) to his Audis, Mr. Danko loved quality with style. When our above-ground pool burst one afternoon, it was Mr. Danko who came over and casually mentioned that 'there is a river on the side of my garage, do you know anything about it?' Yes, he could have been British for his ability for quiet understatement. Maybe that was his submarine training kicking in. We have a million stories about the Dankos and all are filled with love and admiration. I know I speak for my entire family when I say we will miss Mr. & Mrs. Danko forever. Their memory is a blessing to all who knew and loved them. The perfect example of lives well-lived. (And with all that, their kids turned out great as well!) Our sincerest condolences to the Danko family.
