I still recall how Susan would always seek me out at very large events -- galas, press events, ribbon cuttings -- to discuss issues that were urgent and important to us.... encounters that always made me feel relevant. Then I would watch her seek out the next person, and then the next, and then the next....By the end of these events Susan had pretty much touched the entire room. Issues were discussed, actions outlined, promises made...and our world was always better for it. Thanks, Susan, for that example, and the better world you built for all of us.

Susan was a great mentor. Candid, insightful, eclectic in her experiences, and always wise, I always learned from our encounters. Always too brief, and too few.... but forever cherished. We are all diminished by her departure -- but strengthened by her advice and example.

We at the Malta House of Care were devastated to hear about Susan's passing. Like so many others, we greatly enjoyed and appreciated her boundless intelligence; uncanny ability to remember people and connections -- and to keep making them!; her warm and gracious demeanor; and her insatiable desire to learn and grow. Susan was both ahead of her time, as a "career gal," and a throwback to another era -- an era of impeccable and timeless personal style; classic manners; a deep and abiding sense of philanthropy; and above all, a genuine interest and affection for people. She was a "Wonder Woman" for sure, and it was our pride to include her in the Class of 2015. We extend our deepest sympathies to her family and legions of friends, in whom her indefatigable spirit will surely live on.

While I have not met any of you, I feel as though I know you Susan had a wonderful way of sharing the joy of and pride in her family, especially as it grew with daughters-in-law and grandchildren. Susan and I worked together many years ago at the University of Hartford. She was a mentor to many, including me. She had a magical way of coaching people with her gentle and kind, but firm hand to be and do their best. My most treasured story: one time when we ran into one another, Susan asked me how I was. I must have let barely a nanosecond pass without responding. Susan placed her hands on my shoulders, looked me straight in the eye, and said, Youre fine. Youre always fine. I carry the generosity of Susans caring and wisdom with me, and have passed it on to others many times. I wish you peace and the joy of many wonderful memories. May Susans memory be a blessing.

Our deepest sympathy to the entire Scherer family. We only recently met Susan. The entire staff enjoyed her wit and smile. She was so looking forward to creating a Thanksgiving Feast with her loving family. I will keep you all in my prayers.

Dear Henry, Charles, Tony, and family: I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Susan, a dear friend, mentor, and cheerleader of mine for decades. Susan mentored me in my early twenties when I was working in my families printing business and Susan was launching Luettgens Limited. She was a vibrant, classy and smart business woman.
In later years, Susan assisted me in becoming the Co-Chair of Chrysalis Center's Capital Campaign, to build our headquarters at the former Sealtest factory.
Susan was a loyal friend, and a champion of many causes. She could play bridge at the Town and County and beat many a hand, had a quick wit and a marvelous sense of humor. I will miss her and her style, no one ever looked better in a black and yellow outfit as Susan!
She adored each of you and BRAVO- to a life well lived.

I worked for Susan at the University of Hartford, and always found her to be extremely warm, caring, and generous, with a great sense of humor. Long after she left the University, she stayed in touch with many of us and really cared about how we were doing. My deepest sympathies to Susan's family and friends.
