Sylvia Smith Obituary

Sylvia Stinson Smith, 81, of Windsor, beloved wife of Floyd W. Smith, died Friday, (August 16, 2002) at home. Born in Hartford, daughter of the late Richard and Florence (Dray) Stinson, she lived in Hartford before moving to Windsor 37 years ago. She graduated from Bulkeley High School, she worked for Travelers Insurance Co. and the Windsor Racquet Club. Sylvia was an avid pianist and played at the Calvary Temple. She was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Newington and she was an active Sunday school teacher and gave her time to many youth group events. Besides her husband Floyd of 49 years, she is survived by two sons and their wives, Officer William and Tracey Smith of Windsor, Ronald and Melinda Smith of Glastonbury; a sister, Elsie Stinson of Wethersfield; six grandchildren, Amanda, Caitlin, David, Zachary, Jacob, Ryan; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 20 at 11 a.m. at Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor. Burial will be in Windsor Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Windsor. Calling hours will be Monday from 7-9 p.m. at the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to Emmanuel Christian Academy, 296 New Britain Ave., Newington, CT 06111.
