Theodore Flanders Obituary

Theodore A. Flanders, 86, of Windsor, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 24, 2017. He was previously married to Jeanne Guertin Flanders on August 12, 1950 in Lebanon, NH where they both attended local schools. Jeanne and Ted had two children, Bradley and Karen who grew up in Windsor. Bradley later married Pauline Hayashigawa and had two children, Gregory Yukio Flanders (his wife Molly), and Vanessa Keiko Flanders who grew up in Whittier, CA. Jeanne died in May of 2000 and is buried in Lebanon, NH. Mr. Flanders was later married to the former Barbara Sharbaugh in April, 2003. They spent their married years together with winters in Florida and summers in CT. They traveled extensively which enriched their retirement. Mr. Flanders was an engineer out of the University of New Hampshire that worked for UTC at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft and later at Hamilton Standard. He spent many years in Marketing and Sales primarily developing international opportunities in Europe and Asia. Upon retiring from UTC he worked part time as a consultant for five years. His loving care for his family led to many cherished memories, and his constant support encouraged his children's and grandchildren's development. He will be dearly missed and long remembered. He will be buried next to his wife Jeanne in Lebanon, NH. Services will be private at the discretion of the family. For online condolences please visit www.carmonfuneralhome.com

We just returned from vacation and were so surprised to learn of Ted's passing. He was our neighbor and it was a pleasure living next door to him. He was such a kind man. We are so sorry for your family's loss and will keep you in our prayers. He will be missed.

Karen and Brad,

My deepest sympathy to you on the loss of your father. I have many happy memories of the years I worked with Ted at Hamilton, especially when my good friend Eileen was his secretary and I was secretary to his good friend Andy and we worked together on various programs/projects. We continued to keep in touch over the years, and he'll be missed. Thoughts and prayers are with you.

To Ted's Family: I am so sorry for your loss. I was a co-worker with Ted for many years at Hamilton Standard. He was a pleasure to work and travel with. I accompanied Ted and Tom Herrala on a trip to Tokyo back in the 1982-1983 time frame. We took a non stop 14 hour flight from JFK to Tokyo. Due to the length of the flight and the fact that we had to work with our Japanese licensee upon arrival, we were given permission to fly first class with all of the perks that accompanied first class travel back in those days. As we departed for Japan from JFK, Ted indicated that he had given up alcohol for lent (our trip was right after the Easter season) and that he was going to make up for every day during lent that he hadn't consumed the beverages of his choice. Ted fulfilled that promise for the entire 14 hours of our flight. When we landed in Tokyo 14 hours later, Ted got separated from Tom and I in the airport after we departed from the plane. It took Tom and I almost 20 minutes to locate Ted, who, when found by us, was wandering aimlessly around the airport with a big grin from ear to ear on his face but also looking somewhat sheepish like a young child who knew he had done something wrong. We stayed in a high rise downtown Tokyo hotel and the three of us sat in one of our rooms chatting before we all called it a night. The hotel room had floor to ceiling Windows and at one point, Ted got out of his chair and walked smack dab into the glass window. I remember grabbing him out of fear that he was going to crash right through the window and fall several stories to the street level below. Well he didn't --------he survived and Tom Herrala and I breathed a mutual and grateful sigh of thanks to our Devine Creator. It's a memory I won't forget and Ted, like so many other of my co-workers reminds me once again of the uniqueness of the crew of folks who worked for Hamilton all those years ago. Rest in peace, Ted. You led a purposeful life for your family and the many people who were fortunate enough to be graced with your presence in their lives.
