Theresa Wlodkowski Conheady

1930 - 2023

Theresa Wlodkowski Conheady, Known as Terry or Minka to her family and friends, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2023 surrounded by family at St Francis Hospital in Hartford.

Born November 22, 1930 and raised in New Britain, the fifth of six children. She would graduate from Teachers College and complete her masters program at UCONN. She began her teaching career at the Northend School in New Britain before marrying her beloved husband Robert on May 4, 1957 and settling in Simsbury. There, she also taught elementary school and started her family. She would move to West Hartford, taking a few years off from teaching as the family expanded, later returning to and retiring from, teaching elementary school in Hartford after more than 25 years. Following retirement, she moved to Bloomfield.

Always on the go and in the middle of something, Terry had many interests, notably her love of musical theater, playing the piano and back road day trips to anywhere for lunch. She would continue her activity in retirement by traveling extensively and volunteering at the Bushnell Theater, UCONN thrift store, West Hartford Senior Center, teaching catechism and helping out at the church. She loved spending time with her grandchildren but couldn't wait for her weekly lunches and card games with friends and her weekly line dancing class. During all this, she managed to take care of her special needs nephew John, until she herself needed care. She did find time to relax at her cottage in Old Saybrook and loved being on the side of the house, under the maple tree in her favorite chair, with a good book.

Theresa was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Rose Wlodkowski and her husband, Robert J.K. Conheady and survived by her Daughter Leslie Edwards, son Garrett Conheady, brother Henry Wlodkowski, her grandchildren Kristin, Tracy, Carrie-Anne and Stephanie Edwards, 4 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass at Sacred Heart Church in Bloomfield is scheduled for Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at 10:00 AM. She will be laid to rest at Mt Saint Benedict's cemetery in Hartford. Reception to follow.
