Thomas Doyle Obituary

Thomas Martin Doyle, Jr., died on September 11, 2023 after a brief illness. He was 77. Born to Winifred McGuinness Doyle and Thomas M. Doyle on July 25, 1946, Tom was raised in Bridgeport and attended St. Augustine's School and Fairfield Prep. He served in the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve from 1964-1970.

Tom studied at Georgetown University and received his undergraduate degree from the George Meany Center for Labor Studies/Antioch College. A civil rights and labor activist, Tom spent decades as a fierce advocate for workers as a labor organizer with the New England Health Care Employees Union, District 1199, SEIU. While with 1199, Tom attended and received his J.D. from the University of Connecticut Law School and was admitted to the Connecticut State Bar. In later years, Tom pursued his lifelong love of Irish music playing the bodhran, the traditional Irish drum, in Connecticut and New York. For the past 43 years, Tom has been an active member of AA. Tom is survived by his siblings and their spouses: Kevin Doyle and Pearl Granat, Mary Ann Doyle and Steven Froot, Michael McGuinness Doyle and Aileen Doyle, as well as his many loving and much beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:00am from the Redgate-Hennessy Funeral Home Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull and at 11:00am in St. Augustine's Cathedral, Bridgeport with a Mass of Christian Burial. Visitation will be Thursday 4-8pm at the funeral home. To send online condolences please visit www.redgatehennessy.com

What a cool guy. Condolences to the whole Family. Neat to learn he was w/ SEIU 1199 back in the days my Husband was working for the State of CT. After we moved to Eugene OR., in 1990, we both went to work for SEIU 503, & we were surprised to learn that our then Exec. Director, Leslie F, also came out of 1199, and knew the Doyle Family well. Small world indeed. I believe I have a couple old pics from 4th of July @ Ffld beach in the 70's that may include Tom....I'll be looking for them. I honor & appreciate his legacy of Solidarity. Peace.

Kevin and Mary Ann: I am sorry to hear that Tom passed away. I remember the times we would get together at McGuinness family events. Tom was always so funny with a wonderful acerbic sense of humor. I ran into him within the last few years and the years always just melt away when you run into, someone that shares memories as we do.

My best to the entire family.
