Thomas Jakubiec Obituary
Thomas M. Jakubiec, 59, of Colchester, beloved husband of Robyn (Laverty) Jakubiec, died suddenly Saturday (April 18, 2015). He was born in Geneva, NY, the son of Phyllis (Polek) Jakubiec of Middletown and the late Dr. Frank J. Jakubiec. Tom "Jake" was a graduate of Xavier High School class of 1974 and also of Columbia University class of 1981. Tom was an avid birdwatcher, star gazer and gardener. He loved jazz music, family camping trips and was very passionate about special projects with his son. In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by his son Thomas F. Jakubiec; stepdaughters, Patricia and Chantal Henry; brother, Dr. Robert Jakubiec and his wife Dorothy of Middletown; sister, Catherine Archer and her husband Gregg of Portland; brothers in law Robert Laverty and his wife Susan of VA, Randall Laverty and his wife Jennifer of MA and Russell Laverty of MA; as well as his nieces, nephews, great niece and great nephew. Funeral services are private and burial will be at the convenience of the family. Donations in Tom's memory may be made to the "Thomas F. Jakubiec Life Ahead Fund" at any Liberty Bank (245 Main Street, Portland, CT 06480) or to the CT Audubon Society Nature Center at Glastonbury, 1361 Main Street, Glastonbury, CT 06033. Had to travel back to CT two weeks ago; passed through Middletown along 91. As I had some time, decided to drive by some old haunts. Got off at Country Club Rd to pass by my sister´s old place; drove by Tom´s family home and fondly remembered him and his friendly smile and some of his antics from High School. Can´t get over how much time has passed; can´t believe Tom passed away 10 years ago now.
It´s clear, one´s legacy is the imprint of memories they leave on our minds.
Tom will always be fondly remembered.

I remember being at an outing at Bob and Dorothy's home, Tommy and I were talking about family and Tommy was expressing how happy he was. It was a good feeling I won't forget.

I was going through some old tackle boxes I have a few weeks ago and came across an Out Of State Vermont Fishing License I had bought when Tom and I made a backpacking trip on the Long Trail up to Stratton Mountain. I was fortunate to have him as a friend and cherish all the memories I have. You are still missed!

I am so sorry for your loss. I knew Jake from high school and he was very good friends with my brother Steven. Jake was there when my brother passed and helped my family during that difficult time. It has been many years since I took care of three delightful Jakubiek children, Bobby, Tommy, and Cathy during their mother's recovery from surgery one summer, but I still remember their cherubic faces. I am so sorry to hear of Tom's passing; my sincere thoughts and condolences to his family.

I am so surprised to hear of Tom's passing. My deepest sympathies to all his family. I've seen Tom maybe once or twice since high school and that was many years ago.... But there have been times over the years a smile and chuckle would come when reflecting back to those days at Xavier. So, so sorry to see this.....

I was deeply saddened to read of Jake's passing when I returned from a fishing trip to Wyoming today. I have such fond memories of Jake from his early student/athlete days at Xavier to socializing with him during and after Xavier Golf Tournaments and alumni social events.I will miss his warm smile and the big hug that he gave me every time we re-connected. My deepest sympathies to all of his family members, especially his brother Bob and his wife Dorothy who are dear friends. May his soul rest in peace.

So sorry to hear of Jake's passing. I was a fraternity brother of Jake who spent a lot of time playing cribbage with Tom. I still play and always think of Jake when I play.
