Vera GIVENS Obituary
GIVENS, Vera (Dudley)
Vera (Dudley) Givens, 78, of Hartford, died on Sunday, (April 21, 2013), at Alexandria Manor in Bloomfield. She was born on Sept. 26, 1934, in Monticello, GA, daughter of the late Rev. Joseph and Lizzie (Evans) Dudley. Vera grew up in Americus, GA and moved to Hartford in 1958. She worked for Alexandria Manor for 35 years, before her retirement. Vera was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church in Bloomfield. After retiring she enjoyed caring for Grandchildren, shopping, cooking, music and dancing. A kind, caring and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, she will be greatly missed by all. She leaves six children, Christy Givens and Harold Givens both of Hartford, Lambert Givens and his wife Juliette of Avon, Steven Givens of Hartford, John Givens and his wife Michelle of West Hartford and Kimberly Henry and her husband Lloyd of Hartford; her sisters, Rosa Arnold of Tallahassee, FL and Geneva Pless and her husband Andrew Pless of Atlanta, GA; 20 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and a host of other family members and friends. She was predeceased by her son, Anthony Givens, her brothers, James "Lynn" Dudley and Tommy Lee "George" Dudley and her sister, Alberta "Molly" Branch.
A celebration of life service will take place on Saturday, April 27, 2013, at 10 a.m., at Bethel A.M.E. Church, 1154 Blue Hills Ave., Bloomfield. Burial will follow in Mount Saint Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Her family will receive friends on Saturday, prior to the service from 9-10 a.m. at the church.
