SORENSEN, Vergie A. Vergie Amidon Sorensen, 92, formerly of Glastonbury, died Wednesday, (June 22, 2005) at the home of her daughter. She was the loving wife of the late Frederick Sorensen and her second husband Arthur Sorensen. She was born on February 28, 1913 in Holyoke, MA; the daughter of the late Elmer and Annie Amidon. Vergie lived in Hamden, for many years running a dairy farm with her husband Frederick Sorensen. She graduated from Hill House High School and Stone Business College in New Haven. Vergie worked during World War II as a bombsite inspector and later in customer service at Griest Mfg. in West Haven. She was a member of the Danish Brotherhood & Sisterhood, the New Haven Grange and the Red Hat Society of Glastonbury. She was also a member of The First Congregational Church in Manchester, VT, where she lived with her daughter for several years. Vergie was vibrant, fun loving and always ready with a story or a song for her numerous friends. She was a lover of all animals and had many pets throughout her lifetime. She will be sadly missed by her daughter, Vergie Steevels and son-in-law Bob Steevels of New Hartford. She also leaves two step-sons, Bill Sorensen and Robert Sorensen both of Bethany; two grandchildren, Ingrid Privee and her husband John of New Hartford, and Bart Steevels and his wife Julie of Chester; four great grandchildren, Mark and Charlotte Privee and Brynn and Eleanor Steevels. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, July 9, at The Congregational Church of South Glastonbury, 16 High Street, South Glastonbury at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. Montano-Shea Funeral Home, 5 Steele Road, New Hartford has care of the arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to: Hospice, C/O Foothills Visiting Nurse & Home Care, Inc., 32 Union Street, Winsted, Ct 06098 and/or the Humane Society.
