Virginia Capone Obituary

CAPONE, Virginia Virginia Capone, 85, passed away on Sunday (January 6, 2008). Born October 31, 1922 in Stamford, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Frances Abbott Carlson. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. The most important thing in her life was her family. She was an avid gardener and enthusiastic New York Mets Fan. She is survived by two sons, Joseph Capone, Jr. and his wife, Bridjay, and their children, Joe III, Brian, Joeilynnae and R.J. all of Stamford; and Gary Capone and his wife, Susan, and their children, Bill, Kristen, Casey and Matt; three great-grandchildren, Morgan, Johnny, and Haylee all of Danbury; and a daughter, Shari Capone Halvorsen and her husband, Richard, of Westbrook and their children, Lauren and Erik. A sister, Jeanne Ofiero; and two brothers, James and Jon Carlson also survive. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Joseph G. Capone, Sr.; a brother, Harry Carlson; and a sister, Doris Trimmer. Friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, on Thursday, January 10 from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. A funeral procession will then proceed to St. Mary RC Church, 566 Elm Street, Stamford, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 p.m. Entombment will follow at St. John's Mausoleum in Darien. We are so sorry to hear of Virginia's passing. She and our mother Winnie DuJack were best friends in our youth. They were roommates in the maternity ward in St. Joseph's Hospital. May all the warm memories that were created help you in this time of grief.

No bond is as great as that between a parents and children. My deepest condolences are with you as you grieve. Your parents and mine shared many great times and memories. Your Mom is my god mother and I do wish at this time we stayed closer in touch. I lost my Mom a year ago May so I know all to well how much of a loss all of you share.
