Rev. Walenty F. Pieczka

PIECZKA, Reverend Walenty F., CM The Reverend Walenty F. Pieczka, CM, died at St. Joseph's Residence, Enfield, on Saturday, (August 25, 2007). He was 87 years old, and an ordained priest for 64 years. He was the son of the late Jozef Pieczka and Anna Swierczek Pieczka. He was one of nine children; all his brothers and sisters are deceased. Born in Brzezce-Pszczyna, Poland, on November 10, 1919, he completed his theological studies for the Vincentian priesthood in Krakow, and was ordained there on July 18, 1943. Sixteen years later, Father Pieczka came to the United States to minister in Polish-American parishes in Brooklyn, NY, and in the state of Connecticut. He held the offices of pastor and superior at St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish in Brooklyn from 1966 to 1975, and superior of the Vincentian House at St. Michael's Parish in Derby from 1993-2002. A Vigil Service for Father Pieczka will be held in the Chapel of St. Joseph's Residence, 1365 Enfield Street, Enfield, CT on Monday, August 27 at 7 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the St. Joseph's Residence Chapel on Tuesday, August 28 at 11 a.m. Burial will be in the Vincentian Fathers community plot at St. Michael's Cemetery in Derby.
