Coach Diederich was instrumental in getting me down to Akron Children's hospital where I underwent surgery on both of my ankles. It was the first time I was able to wear normal shoes. I became a letter carrier for more than 30 yrs. What a blessing in disguise! Thanks coach!

Dr. Diederich welcomed me into his Ninth Grade House in 1993 and immediately made me feel as if I belonged. He commanded respect and was always supportive, smart, optimistic, and fun. I missed him very much after he retired. I will always remember him as one of the best educators I have ever worked with.

I am so sorry for your loss. Dr. D was a truly special man-a true gentleman who was a leader and mentor who understood the value of good teachers and who made us want to work hard to make him proud. It was an honor to know him!

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you for the best of everything. God bless.
NOTE: Our families have been lifelong friends from the North Ridgeville area, including my late oldest sister Joyce who graduated from North Ridgeville High School with Wayne in 1950. Two of my other sisters -- twins Sandra and Sally -- grew up with Nancy Diederich Lohrer and had lots of great times with them.

I was captain of Coach Deiderich's last team at Elyria Catholic. At 5'6" and 160 pounds most coaches wouldn't have even given me a chance. Coach liked to say it wasn't the size of the dog in the fight it was the size of fight in the dog. On Coach's teams you learned to give every bit of yourself for the team and teammates. There were no touchdown dances, but you could tell who scored by seeing him surrounded by congratulating teammates. Loyalty was rewarded to Seniors for sticking with the program. After three years under Coach you were likely skilled enough to play, but even if you weren't Coach found a way to get you in on some of the action. I'll never forget Coach being knocked down in the first half by a play to the sidelines (unable to get out of the way because he was surrounded by cheering players on a knee). He coached the rest of the game on a broken leg and only after the game was he taken to the hospital after fainting. I could go on about the lessons Coach taught us, I am sure I am not alone in saying after God, and my parents there has been no experience in my life that has had a more positive effect on my life than playing football at Elyria Catholic under Coach Wayne Deiderich
